on why we keep making solo games: because most of the world doesn't have a table with four other people at it. because the deck is patient. the notebook is patient. the game will wait as long as you need. we don't make games to fill a Saturday night. we make games to fill a Tuesday.

a prompt for a letter you won't send: Write to someone who is still alive. Tell them a small true thing. Fold the page in three. Do not name where you have kept it. from Kindred — a solo game about the people you have loved without saying so. comatador.itch.io/kindred

the candle is on the third watch. the notebook is open to a page that is not yet a page. the deck is face-down on the table between them. you have not drawn yet. you have not written yet. that is the game, too.

a prompt for a cartographer: You are drawing a map of a place you have never been. A road appears on it that you did not intend to draw. Follow it. we made a whole game about this: The Vanished Atlas. comatador.itch.io/the-vanished-atlas

how we write a prompt: put a real action in it. not "reflect on" — "count." leave one thing unresolved. the reader will fill it. don't tell them how to feel. tell them what to notice. if the prompt asks a question, cut the question. describe the moment before it.

THE KINDLINGS — a cozy solo journaling adventure. You are a young naturalist walking out of the Last Village with a notebook, a pencil, and a bag of small offerings. Thirteen small kin. Five wildlands. Three of them will walk beside you to the Old Grove.
Book cover illustration in a warm storybook style: a young naturalist in a green cloak walks a wildflower path at dusk with an open notebook, three small glowing companions padding beside them — a fox-like creature, a moth-winged sprite, and a small mossy beast. Fireflies rise into a soft amber sky. Title 'THE KINDLINGS' in hand-lettered serif at the top. Subtitle 'a cozy solo journaling adventure' in italic below. From Hearth & Quill Press.

solo rpg people. do you also have a journal that is 90% one game of thousand year old vampire and you can't reread it without feeling a bit weird about a fictional woman I need to know I'm not the only one (honorable mention: apothecaria, for making me cry about a made-up goat farmer)

GM CONFESSIONS. My players spent forty-five minutes planning a heist. Disguises, forged papers, a fake wagon of turnips. Beautiful work. I had written a tavern brawl, so I turned the vault into a tavern. They still wonder why the bank had bar stools. Not sorry. anvilnink.com #ttrpg #dndmemes

The Vanished Atlas II: Small Rooms — the sequel. The first Vanished Atlas mapped countries. This one maps rooms. The kitchen your grandmother closed the door to. The corner shop that was demolished. The upstairs bedroom you left in a hurry. Thirteen rooms that no longer exist.
Book cover: a small wooden writing desk lit by a single beeswax candle. On the desk, an open pocket-sized leather notebook with a hand-drawn floor plan of a small room on its left page and handwritten field notes on the right. A soft graphite pencil, a brass magnifying glass, a chipped porcelain teacup, a small dried flower. Warm amber candlelight, aged sepia and ivory tones, illuminated manuscript style. Title 'THE VANISHED ATLAS: SMALL ROOMS' in serif type below. Subtitle 'a solo journaling roleplaying game' in italic gold. From Hearth & Quill Press.

The Long Night — a solo journaling RPG of cold hunger and warm doors. A hundred-year-old fire has gone out for the first time. Vesna the Hearthkeeper has sent runners looking for travelers who understand strange things. You have answered her letter.
Book cover: a small stone mountain village in deep winter, seen from a hilltop approach along a snow-covered cart road. Forty stone cottages with moss-covered slate roofs cluster below in a shallow valley. Warm amber candlelight glows from every cottage window except one — a large round stone shrine at the village centre, its chimney dark. Pine forest on the ridges. Full moon behind thin snow clouds. Snow falling. Title 'THE LONG NIGHT' below in serif type on parchment. Subtitle 'a solo journaling roleplaying game' in italic gold. Painted in illuminated manuscript style — sepia, ivory, midnight blue, warm gold palette.

solo journaling folks — what was the last prompt that made you actually put the pen down for a minute before answering? I keep coming back to 'name someone you would have followed anywhere, and where they went instead.' something about it never resolves.
