Oh academia, how I love you so. Had I a more privileged life I may have stayed a while or returned during a different decade of life. Instead, at the old age of 55+, I have started an 8-week course through OSU, which no doubt subsidizes the course to become an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist.

I tuned in to a recent MoveOn webinar about the rights of immigrants. Unfortunately I truly believe most GOPs no longer care about upholding the constitution. Rules have and always will only apply to “other people” because they are so arrogant, they know better.

By renaming it the Gulf of America, all the power of naming a location goes to Mexico, because maps are made from the perspective of travel not ownership. People leaving Mexico will head to the Gulf of America just like taking Harrison Rd meant I’m headed to Harrison farm.

The mapmakers named places from their POV. i.e. Harrison Rd is the road taken to get to Harrison typically from a place that has authority over the maps and names of places. If you live in Mexico then you’re going to say that way to America, through the Gulf of America. Probably not the goal.
