Back in July, took a walk out to the end of Sand Point, just north of Weston-super-mare. Had the place to myself, which was a real treat. A beautiful wild spot, with so many wildflowers to enjoy. #westonsupermare #somerset #wildflowers #nature
Wildflowers and grasses in the foreground on a hilly slope. In the background, the sea and headland. Sea is grey. Sky is full of low white cloud.Steep slope with a view down to the sea. Slope is covered in wildflowers and grasses. Sea is grey with waves breaking on the bottom of the slope.View back inland from the tip of Sand Point. Sand Point is described by the National Trust as a 'natural pier'. Wild and windswept, a bracing walk even in summer. This view shows the thin strip of grassy meandering land, with a grey sea on the left of the picture. Cloudy sky with some blue sky showing.View out to sea from the edge of Sand Point. The is shining into the camera and glittering on the grey sea. You can see the yellow grassy ground of Sand Point, a rocky outcrop. In the distance on the horizon you can see Steep Holm, a small island which can be visited in the summer months.

Love this idea for a bench. This was at WWT Slimbridge, a favourite place to visit. Easily adaptable for a home garden. #nature #wildlife #biodiversity #garden
Bench made of two gabions filled with logs, some drilled with bee-holes, and other insect-friendly items. Topped with oak slabs. Background is foliage and water.

There are sumptuous sunsets to enjoy at Cheddar Reservoir - this was back in September when water levels were unusually low. #cheddar #sunset #birding #nature

In September, a drained Cheddar Reservoir turned into a mini wetlands, with all kinds of waders turning up to feed in the shallow waters. It was wonderful. #cheddar #birding #nature #wildlife

Had a fascinating time recently doing a tour of the Chained Library in Wells Cathedral. I hadn't known what a chained library was - books were chained to the shelves to prevent theft. (And this was in the days when only selected clergy had access 😐.) Very knowledgeable tour guides, recommended.
Shelves of very old chained books - books were chained to the shelves to prevent theft.

If I'm suitably organised and walk speedily, I can do this walk at lunchtime (I work from home). I love the sound of the little brook as it races along, so beautiful and soothing. If I'm lucky I might spy a grey wagtail. #mendips #nature #walking #wildlife

Sheer tranquillity at RSPB Ham Wall on the Somerset levels. A wonderful place to sit and watch and recharge. If you look closely you can see Glastonbury Tor in the distance. #birds #nature #wildlife

This pheasant has been a regular visitor to my garden in the last couple of weeks, very handsome bird.

A small but delightful murmuration at RSPB Ham Wall on Monday evening. Starlings continued to arrive and roost for a good half-hour after the first batch settled.
