New research from Proton finds 87% of top Canadian companies depend on US tech companies. For governments, it’s even worse: 100% of federal, provincial, and territorial governments rely on US companies for email. As Canada turns away from the US, major institutions need to cut that reliance.

In general, I think the end times framing is wrong; not only does the politics of fascism work to create the "end times" conditions Klein and Taylor say makes our fascism distinct from others, the whole point of fascism is the promise of a rebirth for a select group of people via eliminating others
000
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
elon musk is both a tech "end-timer" fascist and a gender fascist, and I think any analysis of modern fascism needs to make sense of both at the same time
100
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
so what you're left with is an analysis of fascism that correctly emphasizes the role masculinity plays in the fascist imaginary but one that does not have a wide enough scope to include a consideration of trans identity and the rejection of it as central to the fascism we see
110
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
you can't make sense of the anti-trans movement as fascist in the sense of seeking "the end of all things" - it is clearly aimed at restoring (through elimination) the cis-patriarchal status quo - but you can't make sense of "end times fascists" without making sense of patriarchy
110
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I'll say it's pretty surprising that Klein and Taylor don't name the global anti-trans movement as one of the drivers of "end times fascism" but I think it's mainly because it disrupts their premise - that modern fascists are actively seeking "the end of all things"
100
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
If your book on "End Times Fascism" doesn't have an index entry for "trans" or "transgender," it cannot explain the fascism of our times

to say fascism isn't a part of modernity is to say it's a relic of when we were "savage" - ie. pre-enlightenment - and erases Indigenous ways of being as inherently "savage" and colonialism inherently "progressive"
000
Dr. Collin Chepeka 🇵🇸 @collinchepeka.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
the only thing that benefits from framing fascism and it's violence as an "aberration to modernity" is liberalism, which just so happens to have birthed the most uncontroversial examples of fascism: Italy and Germany

The Prime Minister Still Holds $6.8 Million in Brookfield Stock Options. Parliament's Ethics Committee Says a Blind Trust Isn't Enough.
Mark Carney joined Brookfield Asset Management in 2020 as Vice Chair and Head of ESG and Impact Investing, later becoming Chair of the Brookfield Asset Management board. He held those roles until January 2025, immediately before launching his successful Liberal leadership campaign and becoming Prime Minister in March 2025. According to Brookfield's 10-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Carney held 409,300 unexercised Brookfield stock options worth approximately US$6.8 million as of December 31, 2024. Brookfield is one of the largest residential property owners in Canada, with 31,211 residential units in the country (part of a North American portfolio of over 73,000 single-family lots). Upon becoming Prime Minister, Carney placed his assets in a blind trust and established a conflict-of-interest screen — administered by his chief of staff Marc-André Blanchard and Privy Council Clerk Michael Sabia — intended to wall him off from official decisions involving Brookf
