Just taking a moment (with apologies to @akilbello.bsky.social who invented "Stanvard") to point out that if you coach at a selective college and respond to inquiries from 6th semester juniors that you have seen play by trying to sell camp, you're kind of a scumbag.
Dear Coach,

I get why you reply, “we will need to evaluate you further in person to determine if Stanvard is a good fit. We are hosting an ID Camp and would love to work with you. Let me know,” to an email.

BUT when it is a prospect that you have seen in high level competition asking a direct question about their status spring of junior year or later, you’ve transitioned from “selling the dream” to “providing misleading hope.”

Knock it off!

Sincerely,

Everybody

Yvon Labre! Team captain and community fixture from the Washington Capitals disastrous expansion era and possibly the slowest #1 defenseman in league history. He did score the team's first ever home goal and is a lifelong ambassador for the franchise and sport - not sure they'd be here without him!
A collectible hockey card featuring Yvon Labre, one of the slowest defenseman ever to skate in the NHL. He was a mainstay and fan favorite Washington Capital playing for what is probably still the worst NHL team ever assembled.

Truly. Do the right thing. Do it anyway.
Mother Teresa Poem-

Do It Anyway

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy: be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.

Posting this parable from Zuangzi for no particular reason...
A Crow Eating a Dead Rat, from Zuangzi

ONE DAY, ZHUANGZI WENT TO SEE HUIZI, WHO WAS THEN
PRIME MINISTER OF WEI.

AN AIDE TO HUIZI SUGGESTED, "ZHUANGZI SAYS THAT HE IS JUST COMING FOR A FRIENDLY VISIT, BUT HE REALLY WANTS TO TAKE YOUR PLACE AS PRIME MINISTER"

HUIZI WAS WORRIED AND SAID, "LET'S GET DOWN TO BRASS TACKS HERE, ZHUANGZI. JUST WHY DID YOU COME?"

ZUANGZI RESPONDED, "HUIZI, HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A
SOUTHERN BIRD CALLED THE YUANCHU? WHEN THE YUANCHU MIGRATES FROM THE SOUTHERN SEA TO THE NORTHERN SEA,
IT RESTS ONLY ON THE LUXURIOUS FIRMIANA TREE, EATS ONLY TENDER BAMBOO SHOOTS, AND DRINKS ONLY FRESH SPRING WATER.

ONE DAY WHILE IN FLIGHT, THE YUANCHU SPOTTED A CROW LUNCHING ON A RAT.

SEEING THE YUANCHU, THE CROW WAS AFRAID
IT WOULD STEAL THE RAT, SO IT RAISED ITS HEAD AND SCREECHED
WITH ALL ITS MIGHT, "CAW!"

ARE YOU GOING TO SCREECH AT ME?

HIGH POSITIONS MAY BE NECESSARY TO SOCIETY, BUT A WISE PERSON VIEWS THEM AS HE WOULD A CHEAP INN - NO REASON TO STICK AROUND.
