So grateful for the amazing members of the Francis lab, @colinmast.bsky.social @lilianvallet.bsky.social, Ashley Zwick and Subham Banerjee (not pictured here)! So much creativity, quantitative thinking, and geospatial fire science data wizardry. Working with these folks is the best.

Excited to share my MS research! We used the LANDIS-II model to explore how landscape planning can balance wood demand, biodiversity, and carbon storage in a changing climate. Huge thanks to @mattbetts42.bsky.social, @melissalucash.bsky.social, and Neil Williams for all their help along the way!

Great article on a well-taught course by @jameslamping.bsky.social. The course gave students hands-on experience, not only with drones, but also with geographic analysis and research design. Working with James and students from a wide range of majors (geography, ENVS, journalism, etc.) was a blast!

Lastly we ended with a discussion on fire-dependent species and the importance of and effort in reintroducing fire to the landscape.

After lunch, we headed to a burn scar within the park to meet two dendroecologists from SLU and learn more about the fire history of the park and Sweden more broadly.

Next we learned about the physical and mental benefits of forest bathing, participating in a SLU research project on forest therapy.

We started by meeting with park managers to learn more about the day-to-day park regulations/enforcement, fire prevention/fighting, and how to use traditional scythes.
