Anyone else wish the tech gajillionaires would just go back to doing their old frivolous money-burning shit like trying to fly to Mars or some shit?

#CriterionChallenge2026 #filmsky 2/52 Teeth 22. Watch a film rated 2.0-2.9 stars on @letterboxd.social Not sure why Teeth has such a low rating (2.7). It was an interesting premise &despite getting a little lost twd the end, I think a solid effort + a great performance by the lead actress

1/52 Bringing Up Baby 32. Elle Fanning Criterion picks I really wanted to love this, but Hepburn’s character really frustrated me. Not sure I bought Grant as a nerd either. Loved Baby and George though, they were definitely winners here! #CriterionChallenge2026 #filmsky #CriterionChannel

I remember seeing this somewhere... a quick search turned up this Ted Chiang piece www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
As the linguist Emily M. Bender has noted, teachers don’t ask students to write essays because the world needs more student essays. The point of writing essays is to strengthen students’ critical-thinking skills; in the same way that lifting weights is useful no matter what sport an athlete plays, writing essays develops skills necessary for whatever job a college student will eventually get. Using ChatGPT to complete assignments is like bringing a forklift into the weight room; you will never improve your cognitive fitness that way.

Aussies should probably have more pride in our voting system, but I don’t think many realise how we can actually work preferential voting. This is a great reminder. Tho I’m still less convinced by the mandatory voting part

Korean school cafeteria lunches @k-lunch.bsky.social · 23/04/2025
Today’s school lunch: kimbap flavoured fried rice, fish cake soup, tteokbokki (떡볶이), mini seaweed roll (hidden under the mandu), mandu, kimchi, and a peach Coolpis (쿨핏 a yoghurt and fruit drink classic with spicy food). This lunch was AWESOME! Perfection! ❤️ 10/10 #koreanfood #foodsky #foodie #korea

Lately I’ve been watching Designated Survivor. It’s cheesy & cringe af but there’s something oddly comforting about the blindly utopian & completely out of touch with reality view of govt it has. I see it as utopian sci-fi. I think it shows how much the US has changed in a more immediate timeframe/1

Is there a term in English for when it’s snowing heavily? Like for rain we say it’s “bucketing down” but that sounds wrong for snow. Is it just “wow it’s really snowing hard out there”? Like is that all we have?

I got some flag stickers for class and each region has 2 people representing different countries. And I gotta say, they nailed it with this Aussie bloke. Feels just like being back home. And we ALWAYS say “good day”. It’s eerie 😂 But fr wtf is this guy meant to be? Lmao

Ever travel somewhere new and feel instantly connected to it for no reason? I just arrived in Hwaseong for a random last-minute holiday and I’m getting that vibe already, like it’s familiar as if coming home even tho I’ve never been here. I don’t know why. It’s nice tho! Yay random holiday! #korea

I rewatched ‘Air Force One’ and I can’t stop thinking that even after everything he does, Harrison Ford’s President STILL wouldn’t get re-elected cos he seems like he might’ve actually been a bit of a shit president. Also VERY easy to manipulate. Gary Oldman could’ve gotten better results easier tho
