I love this quote from the VP of the private equity firm that owns X Games Club New York, who claims they built a proprietary LLM to tell them to draft Ginwoo Onodera, Chloe Covell, and Nyjah Huston.
It started a few months ago when we heard about the opportunity. X Games was moving to a Formula 1–style league format, and teams were up for sale.

We knew X Games was the name synonymous with action sports — but we wanted to make sure we weren't just trusting our own bias. So we ran the research, did the diligence, and built conviction from there.

Fast forward, and we've taken that thesis from investment to an inaugural season championship. Roster formation. Proprietary LLMs built to draft the most performance-oriented team on the board. Supercharging an already powerful New York brand.

And this is only the beginning.

Tony Hawk is investing in a new MMA league. Sure, why not. www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...
Is the mixed martial arts world ready for a new global challenger? Former Bellator boss and Strikeforce founder Scott Coker thinks so, and so does a group of strategic investors across sports, media, technology and finance providing $60 million in financial backing. So, TKO Group’s UFC, led by Dana White, and Bellator MMA will want to watch out.

After nearly four decades shaping the global combat sports landscape, Coker is back to lead a new MMA league venture with funding led by investment firm Creator Sports Capital and participation from Griffin Gaming Partners and others. Additional investors include Upper Deck; Steve Kaplan, owner of D.C. United and co-founder of Oaktree Capital; Swimmy Minami, founder of Visional and a limited partner of the New York Yankees; skateboarding legend Tony Hawk; former Fortress Investment Group vice-chairman Dean Dakolias; and others, “including several with ownership stakes in both the NFL and NBA,” according to the founders.

For the afternoon crowd: Thom's dispatch from London is full of good questions, answers, and celebrity cameos.
The why is the part of skateurbanism that a lot of us are familiar with. The lobbying of the municipality and campaigning for skateboarding to be allowed, preserved, or even designed for, in public spaces. Panellists Gustav Eden and Iain Borden have sat in rooms like this before advocating for skateboarding to councillors, city planners, residents and architects, and they have honed their presentations.

Borden’s central premise is that skateboarding doesn’t provide answers; it asks questions. It is a critique of the passive experience of cities. He flips the question on its head; rather than having to set out the value of skateboarding, skateboarding questions the value of everything else. What is architecture? Who are cities for? What do we even mean by value?

Reposting for all the new adherents of Worm Theory.
Within each one of us is a worm. Hungry and wriggling, mostly allegorical, it burrows into those lumpy, tender, and coercive parts of the prefrontal cortex that, if nuzzled against, pressed upon, or nibbled in such a way, will drive a person to take things further. Incrementally, and then if given enough leash, to the extreme.

Don't be put off by such a vision. Ambition is a daemon, slimy and segmented. Without the worm, nothing would get done. Scientific breakthroughs, the courage to start a small business or ask your crush out for coffee, Sha'Carri Richardson pushing past the rest of the field for gold, the collective effort required to take a lap around the moon — worm.

Happy to be back in @thetyee.ca this weekend with a piece about enjoying sports, not enjoying the deleterious effect sports gambling is having on most everything, and really enjoying David Macfarlane’s new book “On Sports.” Thanks to @jackie-wong.bsky.social for the supreme edits, as per usual.
Text from article screengrab that reads:

On March 21, rising UFC featherweight prospect Danny Silva, who had just delivered a brutal knockout in London, England’s O2 Arena, told the 18,000 fans in attendance during his post-fight interview, “I’m broke,” and begged for a bonus.

All around Silva, pasted to the stanchions and the canvas of the Octagon, were logos for Stake and Polymarket, an online casino and a “prediction market” respectively. On Silva’s mandatory uniform was Crypto.com’s logo.

During his interview, an ad for Bet365, “the official sports betting partner of the UFC,” took over the screen.

In the middle of it all was Silva, surrounded by mirages of financial freedom as he pleaded for his own.

Tweet from City Clr Rebecca Bligh that reads:

Today, we learned the misinformation Councillor Lenny Zhou cited in the WeChat video, which was the topic of the February 24th press conference, may have originated from Mayor Ken Sim himself during a roundtable with Chinese-language media earlier this month: Translation of Sing Tao article that reads:

Canada-China Relations Thaw as Vancouver
Mayor Ken Sim to Lead Trade Delegation to
China
February 6th 2026
Reported by Sing Tao Daily reporter Chen Yifen

With the Lunar New Year approaching, Vancouver
Mayor Ken Sim and City Councillor Lenny Zhou hosted
a roundtable with Chinese-language media on Friday
to extend New Year greetings to the Chinese
community. At the event, they also announced plans to
visit China later this year or in early next year...

He said that since the ABC Party took office at City
Hall, the top priority has been "public safety first." Sim
stressed, "Numbers speak for themselves. Vancouver's
violent crime rate is now at a 23-year low. Reports of
random street assaults and retail vandalism are far
lower than when we took office in 2022."

Sim added that polling can be skewed because those
most vocal are often more politically active left-leaning
voters. "Last Christmas, a Vancouver city councillor
handed out free drugs on the street-this is something
our ABC Party cannot accept. We believe people with
addictions need support, but not through distributing
free drugs..."Photo of Ken Sim speed-walking away from reporters in City Hall earlier this week, taken by Katie Hyslop @kehyslop.bsky.social

From this Friday's newsletter: Did Tony Hawk get married on Jeffrey Epstein's island?
I reached out to Hawk's team on Tuesday night about the claim and whether Hawk had ever had a wedding hosted on Little Saint James. I've yet to hear back.

Hawk has been married four times. His most recent wedding took place in Ireland in 2015. The previous was held on an island: Tavarua, Fiji, in 2006. The photos are available on Getty. According to publicly available information, Hawk's first two weddings took place in 1990 and 1996, respectively. Jeffrey Epstein didn't purchase his island until 1998. Given those timelines, it seems unlikely that any Hawk nuptials took place on Little Saint James.

The photographer at Hawk's wedding in Fiji was named Mark Epstein, which happens to be the name of Jeffrey Epstein's brother. That has, perhaps unsurprisingly, led many online to claim that the 71-year-old mysteriously wealthy "real estate magnate" and brother of the most notorious pedophile in modern history was moonlighting as Tony Hawk's wedding photographer. That also seems doubtful.

Given that ongoing revelations about Epstein and his wide network of known associates continue to grow and shock us in their depravity with each passing day, anything is possible, but at this juncture, this specific claim appears unsubstantiated.
