I am in the most most city on Earth,
where every story is set and
all lives collide in big bangs
that boom boom out till all contracts.

A man plays Somewhere Over the Rainbow,
solo sax, JBL accompaniment,
above a stretch of creek some signs say
is was will always be The Ramble.

Despite myself maybe
to spite myself,
weary eyes find reprieve
in the embrace of green water
running brief beneath tree and tower.

Somewhere Lies the Moonbow,
when Cumberland falls
back and down the holler
I refused to call home.

Squaresville (5/?) Poem and photo (also in alt text) #poetry #nyc #lifttothesky #writingcommunity #aithoughts #architecture
Monuments keep getting higher
and their edges get sharper.

The intricacy of the ornate,
the artistry of audacity,
replaced by hard corners.

A data point flows in endless waves
of information swelling along my shore
lines to be found and lines to be drawn,
always with the toughest of edges.

Stair Poem (After A.A. Milne) Photo and poem (also in alt text) (4/?) #poetry #poetsofbluesky #architecture #nycpoetry #poem #nyc #lifttothesky #writingcommunity
After A.A. Milne—

A lifetime can be whiled away
at the bottom of the staircase,
gazing up at how many flights
rest unbidden and waiting.

A lifetime can be whiled away
at the top of the staircase,
ogling back at what’s climbed,
longing need for those passed.

But a lifetime can be found
only somewhere on a middle stair—
when your legs are heaviest
and your eyes are locked

on nothing but the next
step that must be taken.

I am the old and I am the new Photo and poem (also in alt text) (3/?) #poetry #poetsofbluesky #architecture #nycpoetry #poem #nyc #lifttothesky #writingcommunity
I am the old and I am the new.
Where brick-bone and glass-pop.
Where sewer arteries move train cars
and millions of cells powerhouse through.

I am an art deco street light
with Bluetooth compatibility,
lamp-shading your selfie
any every hue you want tonight.

The neighbor has grown two pines Photo and poem (also in alt text). #poetry #poem #nyc #nycpoetry #harlem #urbanexploration #lifttothesky #poets #writers
The neighbor has grown two pines.
Or, perhaps those who lived there once
when the rent wasn’t for masqueraders
playing pretend in million dollar homes,
planted these conifers with black hands.
Tended to them until the city said taxes
had gone so high that they were pushed
a street over, another, one more…
all the way to another island,
separated by a river’s rushing
from the roots they had put to earth
uptown where the Columbia undergrads
sip twelve dollar beer and dream
of one day owning anything.

Unknown miles below, another town bisected by one state highway and many numbered splinters. Engine trails fade in daylight and stars disappear from night. A child looks up at the blink, says “Someday” with promise. Assuredly. (1/?) #poetry #poem #lifttothesky #writer #travelpoem #flight #nyc

Hi! My name is David and I’m a writer. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out what that means and I still don’t quite have it. But I’m getting there and am so happy I can share some of what I do with you.
