Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 18/07/2026Up to date data on my backyard mosquito trap. While fogging by the city had an effect, it did not last long. It is also interesting to see the ration of Aedes vexans and Culex tarsalis completely flip after fogging. However I suspect this is driven from a shift from cool and wet to hot and dry. 000
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 27/06/2026This summer I’m collecting and IDing mosquitoes in my backyard. Why, you might ask? Mostly for fun, and I was curious about what species are there. Today I got my first real catch — mosquito populations are booming here following a lot of rainfall. 020
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 11/05/2026@hankgreen.bsky.social the prophylactic rabies vaccine is not bad to get. It's a normal vaccine, easier than COVID/Flu for me. The post exposure vaccine on the other hand, is not pleasant. I had to get the prophylactic one for work as I do zoonotic disease surveillance in small to medium mammals. 010
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 29/04/2026Same here. It’s like what happened to recipe sites is now happening on all sites. Worst thing is videos that play in tjr corner with a close button so small I need a microscope in order to close the video ad. 000
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 17/04/2026For #tidytuesday week 2026-04-07 looking at the repairability of household items via a repair cafe dataset, I compared repair completeness between categories (i.e., whether a repair was completed or partially completed). #ggplot #rstats #dataviz 010
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 14/04/2026It's amazing to me just how fast the ocean heats and cools every year in just a couple of months. This seems obvious but seeing it on a graph like this makes it somehow seem really cool. 000
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 14/04/2026For #tidytuesday week 2026-03-31, looking at coastal ocean temperatures in Nova Scotia, I was mesmerized by the seasonal pattern displayed in my initial geom_point exploration plot that I had to keep it. Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 12/04/2026The thing that changed my life was learning I could use `results = asis` with a for loop to produce an analysis using every unique value in a column automatically. The amount of time this saves is insane! 000
Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 31/03/2026For #tidytuesday 2026-03-17 looking at Norwegian salmon mortality, there seems to be a clear temporal pattern when excess deaths occur for each species. Cheeky title inspiration from the legendary @alex4salmon.bsky.social 🙂 #rstats #ggplot #dataviz 000

Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 01/02/2026Not all departments are listed, and departments are still coming up with number of positions to eliminate, so this more or less just a snapshot. 000

Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 01/02/2026The Government of Canada recently undertook measures to eliminate positions to save money (Comprehensive Expenditure Review). Cole 🐛 @colebaril.ca · 20/01/2026For this week's #tidytuesday, in reading some of the #APOD posts, I noticed the Sun was mentioned a lot. I was curious to see just how much the Sun is mentioned.
