Great to see, and hear, the interactions of a couple of red-throated divers close inshore from the Great Orme yesterday. A summer plumage adult & juv., the youngster was constantly begging from the adult. I was surprised at the extent of red on the juvs throat #birdingwales #UKBirding

It rocked every time it was about to move, sometimes to adjust it's position, other times to preen. Apparently it's part of its camouflage, it rocks slowly to mimic leaves moving in the wind. The theory being that if it stayed still & then preened it would be more obvious than rocking first.

Pennington Flash, willow emerald damselfly on pond behind Ramsdales hide was potentially 1st for flash. I've seen most including today's around New Water, but also where the small dragonfly ponds are north of Fir tree flash. Also maybe you go early morning whereas I go on sunny afternoons looking for dragonflies.

Sadly the best I could get of a lesser emperor at Bickershaw CP, Greater Manchester today, the third of the year here. Not a bad afternoon actually considering the torrential rain in the morning with 9 species of #odonata inc. willow emeralds #Dragonflies #BCPBirding also snipe flushed from pond.

Pacific diver yesterday at Caolas beag, Big Sand, Gairloch. Photos show complete neckless, dark vent strap, rounded head shape, small fine bill, dark flanks & small size compared to black-throated divers. So different it's almost like a grebe within the flock #BirdingScotland #RareBirdsUK

A fabulous trip with Hebridean Whale Cruises this pm, highlight a close great sheawater, Sabine's gull, juv. long-tailed skua & 4 sooty shearwaters all coming to bait balls off Kilt Rock, Skye. Also 10+ minke whales & lots of common dolphins #BirdingScotland #RarebirdsUK

A seawatch from Mellon Udrigle today produced a few bonxies, 1 sooty shearwater & not much else. Time to play "What's my bee?". I was hoping to see small scabious mining bee at MU but, failed. However, what is this? It looks like an ivy bee but surely not, especially this far north #BirdingScotland

Viewed from the burn, then I walked to the last house and saw it again. It was quite a sunny end to the day here so as the afternoon progressed the light got worse. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning and hopefully will get at least a poor photo 😄. How many BT divers did you see?
