The part of New Mutants that was good was the fact that it centered THE NEW MUTANTS. everyone else was there, ofc, but they were secondary. UXM is much more a Wolverine, Rogue, or Gambit story than it is ab any of the Outliers.

if you want to call your characters the New Mutants you also have to reckon with the parallels it is going to draw and what I can tell you is that even with all of its very very many flaws New Mutants has much better rep than UXM currently does. It's also, frankly, a better story.
