“In the dwindling open areas, art was missing, presumably removed. A series of seven John Coburn tapestries were gone, just their short descriptive placards left on the bare walls.” www.washingtonpost.com/style/2026/0...

On the Kennedy Center’s last day, silence and sadness
An eerie silence, empty halls and security guards marked the end, at least for now, of a once-vibrant public space.

Xenotime is a Y mineral not Yb. YPO4 is isostructural with zircon. Monazite-Yb is possible, but monazite-Y is not.

#thinsectionthursday Precipitates of ilmenite and apatite in garnet. PPol, fov=1cm, within one growth sector of a single garnet crystal. First generation (coarse) follows included fabric NW-SE, second generation sub micron crystals decorate unannealed growth dislocations. Note depletion haloes.
Two generations of precipitates of ilmenite and apatite in garnet. PPol, fov=1cm, entirely within one growth sector of a single garnet crystal. Normal to the growth face lies in the plane of the section. First generation (coarse) follows included fabric NW-SE, second generation (streaks) are submicron crystals decorating unannealed growth dislocations. Note depletion haloes.

Yes this rock was once a beach sand containing very rare >4by zircon crystals that weathered out of a long-gone hunk of truly ancient crust. The individual crystals can be dated. Huge effort has gone into finding more of the >4by ones.

No there was no unusual pressure in the *Hadean* Your specimen is apparently a bit of Jack Hills Quartzite, ca. 3.0 billion years old. There is an extremely small possibility that your specimen happens to include any zircon crystals of Hadean age.

A mentor of mine was bothered by a particularly egregious error in a presentation, and asked the young speaker “are you a faculty member or a graduate student?”. “I am faculty” in a haughty tone. “Then I will proceed with my question”.

This was the plan from the start, and it’s why we haven’t been shown any real plans. The purported size of the ballroom was always incompatible with the continued existence of the entire East Wing.

Massive amounts of Saharan dust fertilize the Amazon rainforest
Every year, millions of tons of nutrient-rich Saharan dust cross the Atlantic Ocean, bringing vital phosphorus and other fertilizers to depleted Amazon soils. For the first time, scientists have an ac...

Some caution may be necessary. Could really be that not all microdiamond is UHP. “evidence for the natural formation of metastable diamond at low P (<200 MPa) and low T (<350 °C) during serpentinisation” www.geochemicalperspectivesletters.org/article2029/
