"What about indies" indies were always much closer to traditional art practices due to their independent and highly authorial nature (individuals or small collectives). Their increasing cultural relevance is a reflection of this same audience fatigue around mainstream aesthetic and market trends

Whatever cultural critique we get will be a post-facto analysis on market trends, rather than an a priori effort guiding its course. What I think will happen is that AAA will continue to lose relevance as its defining cornerstones are mostly technical/aesthetic, rather than its formal elements

There is no game equivalent of the critic-gallery-artist institutional art complex, and whatever little academic and formal critique there is does not meaningfully interface with the institutions that hold symbolic power and the means of production/distribution within the industry

The one (unlikely) good outcome from this DLSS5 AI filter thing would be for games to shed their technical fetishism and mature as an artform as the aesthetics of “photorealism” are increasingly decoupled from skill and craftsmanship and are, thus, made obsolete by their own banality

One of the books I need to study has been out of print for two decades, costs R$300 on the resale market, is not available in any local library databases, and the only PDF I can find of it is a blurry, poor quality scan on the internet archive
