‘Tis the season! 👻 Listen as @codymonster91.bsky.social and I break down Glenn's fully committed (too committed?) turn, the film's insane dialogue, whether the horror elements work, and plenty more!

A hollow Tom Cruise performance that’s more volume than substance. Sandra Hüller is bad in a way that I didn’t know was possible for her. John Goodman’s enraged forehead veins are Oscar worthy. Riz Ahmed somehow survives. Incredible sets.

Iñárritu is back babyyyyy with another pompous, tedious, self-important bore. DIGGER pokes and prods and provokes while never making a solid point - the cinematic equivalent of an arms folded “checkmate” Reddit comment repeating notions that were tired a decade ago. An intriguing concept wasted.

FORGOTTEN ISLAND has creative character designs & animation effects, genuinely hilarious visual gags, a banging soundtrack, an actually-scary villain (voiced chillingly by Lea Salonga), & an emotional story that earned an embarrassing amount of my tears. Unfathomably, one the year's best films.

THE END OF OAK STREET really goes for it, pushing PG-13 to its limits in a super fun adventure. Anne Hathaway is giving Shelley Duvall in The Shining. Excellent set-up and pay-off. Great dog. I laughed, I gasped, I said "come on, man." Deserves to be seen with a big loud crowd 🦖

Found the action to be shockingly incomprehensible at times. The score's best moment is undoubtedly the simple harp notes leading up to the big bow string snap...full body chills. Zendaya's pay-off is breathtaking. Not my favorite Nolan, but a movie like this needs to be celebrated.

Circe's chapter truly delighted me with its horror. Upsetting imagery by way of Spirited Away, with Samantha Morton managing to be both frightening and sympathetic. She and Anne Hathaway are dueling it out for best in show, for me. Cinematography both stunning and frustrating (focus issues??)

Finally saw The Odyssey (call me Odysseus bc I was traveling for 2+ weeks...) and the way Nolan manages to organically but clearly tie the story to today is pretty incredible. A bunch of people with American accents crushing rules of decency and cooperation all while fearing outside invaders...ouch

EVIL DEAD BURN is, disappointingly, easily my least favorite film in the series. Just (very well done) nasty unpleasantness in search of a soul. But that hot French director knows how to shoot, even if the edit is perplexing and the screenplay is frustrating.

The lack of a Randy Newman song in Toy Story 5 is pretty glaring. Every Toy Story movie needs a song sung by a scary sounding guy with a voice like a cartoon pirate.

DISCLOSURE DAY is a tricky one. Mysterious and at times unknowable, an unsteady journey that builds to a conclusion that’s unsettling, emotional, & strangely moving. An agile camera and career-best Emily Blunt keep things engaging when the script wavers. An ode to the unifying power of the truth.
