This wonderful guy, Henry Doohan, toured me around County Donegal this week. He told me about mythology, history and lifestyles of the area that had chain migration to western Pennsylvania. I highly recommend all Irish Americans from Pittsburgh to book him through his company Donegal Tour Guide.

In Northern Ireland, the walls tell you where you are. Nationalist neighborhoods honor the civil rights movement, Irish reunification and, in many cases, express solidarity with Palestine. They’re reminders that history here isn’t just remembered—it still shapes the present.

Today I stood beneath Donegal waterfalls, explored ancient stone forts and castle ruins, and looked across the Atlantic from the same hills my McDevitt ancestors once called home. Every stop made Ireland’s history feel less like something I studied—and more like something I inherited. 🇮🇪🍀

Today I walked where my McDevitt ancestors lived, worshipped and looked out over the Atlantic. From Carrick and Donegal Bay to Slieve League and an ancient church where faith endured despite persecution, Ireland stopped being genealogy on paper. It became family, memory and place.

Outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, beginning a journey to Donegal, homeland of my ancestors. Family lore says our ancestors invited St. Patrick onto their lands to baptize the people there. Through plantation, famine and emigration, they endured. Now I’m following their footsteps home. 🇮🇪☘️

Most hyped movie of the year. Went to see it today. As a journalist, it was interesting to see high level publishing politics at work. Would have liked to see how AI is revolutionizing things more as that’s the biggest topic in the profession now. But good flick.

It's good to hold people accountable for the things we have, but let's make sure that we're auditing where taxpayer money is going, especially when it's supposed to do things like preserve safety and keep kids out of trouble. So follow the money from police budgets to community programs too.

Saw F1 today. It's among the greatest car movies I've ever seen. I'd put it up there with Ford V. Ferrari and Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Wyatt Earp, so often cast as a gunslinger, spent his days enforcing gun control. Tombstone’s famed clash began not in bravado, but in a lawman’s stubborn insistence that civilization meant checking your weapons at the edge of town. #guncontrol

Saw Jennifer Lawrence’s new flick about a woman who slowly goes insane because she feels confined by an unhappy marriage and the demands of motherhood. I had a few thoughts, but the biggest thing is that psychosis usually comes more from being too plugged in instead of being removed from society.

Watched this version of Frankenstein, which I liked. I like that it makes you question who the real villain is.

Saw The Rock's new movie, which was a fantastic biopic about Mark Kerr. It's interesting. I just learned that mixed martial arts were one of the categories in the ancient Olympics. It was called pankration, a blend of boxing and wrestling, which were also sports in the competition.

Saw Blue Moon, Linklater’s film with Ethan Hawke as Lorenz Hart—an envious, alcoholic songwriter watching Rodgers drift toward Hammerstein. Its single setting feels stage-like, but fitting: for someone stuck in longing and regret, life becomes one bar, one bartender, and missed chances.

Fodder for my next book, which will be an argument for gun control. I’ve never been a believer in staying in your lane. Broaden your horizons. Learn new things and discuss them. And have fun while doing it.

Stood on the podium at the Panathenaic Stadium, birthplace of the modern Olympics, pretending I’d just won gold. For a moment I heard the crowd cheer—then realized it was tourists waiting for me to move. Still undefeated in “posing dramatically while out of breath.”

Winding up the cliffs to Oia, I watched Santorini unfold — whitewashed walls, blue domes, and the Aegean shining below. Crete’s rugged calm and Santorini’s dazzling light feel like two halves of Greece’s eternal story — one grounded in earth, the other floating on sea and sky. #travel

Visited Ephesus today—walked marble streets where Rome’s world still breathes. The Library of Celsus once held 12,000 scrolls, toilets funded the great theatre, and philosophers taught that harmony at home sustains peace. Wisdom, beauty, and balance—foundations of every empire.

Walked through the Agora in Athens today and thought back to when I was 23, copying every word of Plato by hand until I understood Socrates’ reasoning. Standing there, I could almost hear him speaking as Plato listened. The Agora isn’t just ruins; it’s where ideas first found their voice.
