The biggest Trump booster on Facebook back when I used it was a granny who posted photos of horses bigger than semis and would say “can you believe horses are this big”

Hard to get past how they imagine Klingon erotics but also funny that that’s the problem Worf having they settled on superpowered Ryker trying to solve

Like Marie Saint Clare in Uncle Tom's Cabin. "She is fully convinced that she ought to have...Christian virtue in her kitchen for...less than the ordinary wages...often wishes that she could be a slaveholder, or could live somewhere where the lower class are kept down, & made to know their place."

I mean, his vocation is the type where one must use such limited language that it approaches nonsense; as long as anything your say can't be used against you, because you don't say anything actively, you only tacitly refuse to condemn--often a lot

Pete is imagining cattle thieving in Ireland before the Vikings came and introduced a swatch of military tech, and even in that sort of thing he'd be shot with arrows or brained by a big fella

I was thinking re: Joyce Carol Oates, about Nathanial Hawthorne referring to popular, formula driven writers as a "damned mob of scribbling women." I think referring specifically to Maria Susanna Cummins formulaic (but pretty good) novel The Lamplighter outselling whatever dour book he had on offer

Cody Harrison @codyharrison.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
the idea that genre fiction is formulaic doesn't come from nowhere; at some point Harlequin would have notes about what a things are allowed/not allowed; in the era of easy self publishing and online stuff, things might be different

i write fiction, and I finally actually read JCO's take, and she invented the idea of literary vs genre publishing, and idea that is the lifeblood of MFAs for 75 years; and one that most of us (including me) to some extent accept in interpretative practice

I like coffee history; wasn't the espresso bar also from weird outside pressures where the cafes had to pay more taxes per table; something like that, although I might be talking out of my hat

But one of the things about the old vampyr, is that she's the one in the book who is said to have spread disease, and one of the women accused of witchcraft in Salem was said to have been thought to be responsible for a smallpox epidemic. This really struck me.

When I was watching Vampyr, the Theodor Dryer film, I was really struck by how the book that one of the characters reads describing Vampires was exactly how the Salem people described witches

All I know is that all Union soldiers had rations of coffee and it was considered very important to stave all exhaustion, they had trouble importing from Brazil, so they imported from elsewhere. You've got me reading up on it, lol
