The Amazon "About You" page is going to out me as normcore. "Bulk purchasing men's khaki pants" is a low blow.

Temporary wayfinding. This is the trunk of a street tree that was removed after the last big storm. Eventually city crews will grind out the stump and plant a new tree. #SeenOnTheDogwalk

Stopped for a few minutes to enjoy the spectacle of a state visit by Xi Jinping. There are a lot of organized spectators with Chinese and US flags on Pennsylvania Ave between the hotel and the White House.

The defining feature of seeing a band at the Quarry House Tavern is that they set up right in front of the restrooms. Check out Soft Palms.
A musician with dark hair sings into a microphone while playing an electric guitar on a dimly lit stage under colorful string lights. In the background, there is a restroom sign on a door.

Headed up to Philly on Amtrak for the second night of MTWB. Perhaps more surprising for a man of my age, I didn't pick the night Pavement was playing.
A high-angle photo of a concrete sidewalk covered in hand-drawn concert advertisements written in black paint. The poster announces "CONCERT WEEKEND at THE DELL" featuring Pavement and Rat Boys on Friday July 24, plus Kurt Vile & The Violators, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, and Twisted Teens on Saturday July 25. The graffiti-style artwork includes band names, logos (WXPN, RS/PROUD), decorative starbursts and doodles.

Just an ideal evening for a concert at Fort Reno in DC. We have been going to these off and on for 30 years.

Ok. I found the zoning variance. It was approved as a 3 car garage with 1 BR. The second BR must have been added later to replace one garage. That would explain the garage door and some of the HVAC issues.

We stayed in a new construction AirBnB carriage house in the Victorian Village of Columbus, OH last week. What is a bit crazy to me is that design standards must have required this fake, nonfunctional garage door on the exterior. Behind it was a bedroom.
Exterior front view of a two-story garage with olive-tan horizontal siding and white trim. A closed white paneled garage door sits below a black gooseneck light fixture. On the dark gray shingled roof above, a white dormer holds three black-framed square windows. White gutters run along the rooflines down to a concrete apron facing a gravel driveway.

Obligatory Central Ohio roadside attraction stop: the Longaberger Basket Building.
This is the former headquarters of the Longaberger Company, an iconic example of novelty architecture located in Newark, Ohio. Designed to look exactly like the company's famous medium market basket, it is often referred to as the "Big Basket" building.

Walked around the campus of The Ohio State University today. Love a big state school campus. We saw a bike rack with a green roof.
A modern, covered bicycle parking shelter situated on a wide concrete sidewalk next to a multi-lane road. The shelter features a striking architectural design with a series of curved, crisscrossing black metal supports that hold up a long, gently arched roof. The roof is a green roof, covered in a layer of living grass and small plants. Several bicycles are parked underneath the structure. In the background, there is a dense line of lush green trees under a partly cloudy sky, along with a classic black lamppost standing next to the sidewalk.

I really wanted to like a bike helmet I got on sale from REI, but it made me look like The Great Gazoo. In retrospect, this could have been anticipated.

I walked through the Great American State Fair in DC and it is as pathetic as everyone is saying. It is extremely bare bones and what is there is just sad. If you have a local county fair, go there instead.
A large grassy expanse of the National Mall with a few people milling around. There are plywood sheds with poorly applied classical elements in the distance at the edge of the grass. A white, blocky scale model of the arch Trumps wants to build. It ugly.

Get excited, America. Your national state fair will be housed in a series of classically styled plywood mausoleums.
A wide shot of a long, single-story building with a light-purple facade and classical arch detailing, situated behind a manicured green lawn and a thin wire fence. In the foreground is a wide, sandy dirt path, while trees and the top of a larger stone building are visible in the background under an overcast sky.

I did not correct the tourists who were telling each other that the gift shop and bathrooms at the Washington Monument was, in fact, the White House.
An eye-level shot captures the Washington Monument under a cloudy sky, with a small stone structure circled in red near its base. The monument rises tall in the background, surrounded by a ring of American flags. In the midground, a low stone building is highlighted by a thick, hand-drawn red circle. A paved road spans the center of the image, separated from a grassy lawn by a black chain-link fence in the foreground. Two people walk along a path on the left, while another sits on a bench to the right.

The garden shed already smells like a catnip hotbox after hanging up what I cut a moment ago. After this dries we will make gift bags for friends with cats.
A large, dense bundle of freshly harvested catnip hangs upside down to dry inside a wooden garden shed. The leafy, serrated stalks drape downward, partially obscuring garden tools like rakes and shovels in the background, with a bicycle handlebar visible on the right.

Went for a long run this morning. My bright idea was to take only my house key and my bikeshare fob so I could ride back. Went I got to the end of the run, I discovered I had taken a small whistle instead. It did not unlock a bike.

Since my local post office didn't have the new GOOOOOOOOAL!! stamps today, I went online and got the women's soccer stamps from 2023 instead. The new ones should have said "¡GOOOOOOOOOL!" anyway.
