it's only a PM2.5 sensor but it's integrated into the device itself. when i fluffed up my pillow, it went to like 50+ (unit is µg/m³ i assume?) for a few minutes and the air quality LED jumped from blue (okay) up to orange and then red, haha.

yesss, i do have these allergen-blocking encasings for my pillow, blanket, and mattress! :D that helped a ton and i no longer wake up in the middle of the night because my nose is fully blocked

i'm gonna evaluate it for the week now. right now, i'm leaning towards yes. it was cool in bed too (and seeing how it indicated worse air quality after i fluffed up my pillow!) though perhaps a smaller model is better there? idk yet.

thanks to recommendations of @myraccoonhands.com, @mewsse.pet, and @akorian.cc, i now own an air purifier. i had it on yesterday evening, shortly before going to bed, and this afternoon. it's not as great as allergy meds but i think my nose feels a little bit (but noticably!) less stuffy? 🤔

as much as i'm not a prescriptivist, words do have meaning. i think it's more inappropriate than wrong in more serious political spaces. also, my cynical commentary would be that they do 360° on every problem because they never achieve anything and just turn in a circle saying things.

i think i have pretty good intuition what kind of (development) tooling experience people like and dislike but i also got many years of experience doing that! and i still rely on going out there and talking to users to make my software better.

re: my ux concerns about software in the ai age you can't think user research into existence. telling claude to make good ux isn't going to make a great app. you need to witness the confusion and friction of your users. how they ask for the toilet when you only modelled them ordering a beer.

i actually do too! i'm a big fan of the Mutuals feed, so i barely even see reposts, because i heavily curate my follows and mutuals. we have 26 linear, reverse-chronological feeds, and six additional ranked by popularity. i was just looking to explore a bit beyond my mutuals and follows. :3

Two feed generation times over the past hour: furry-hot and furry-new

the furry-new feed generation time was consistently at around 500ms, and dropped to below 50ms after 13:16 UTC.

the furry-hot feed's time was more volatile but it decreased after another change from between 1s to 1.5s down to consistently below 20ms.

i actually think this wasn't furrylist but another service i run (pwurple.app), where the database node ran out of disk space. the error message would make more sense because it looks more like a mariadb message rather than a postgres message?

we just upgraded our database (postgres) from version 16 to 18, with almost zero downtime 🫡 you shouldn't notice anything, except that the feeds might load a little bit faster :3

not using :3 for 2018 to 2022 has somewhat been a conscious choice ("only weird, cringe internet catgirls/-boys use that") but also a cultural thing in the spaces i was in. i did use ^-^ (and its variations like ^^, ^_^, etc.) though instead as similar expression! idk what happened 2022.

Rate of “:3” and “^-^” in my Discord messages per month

The :3 variations show a few peaks around 2018 and then it really started picking up in mid-2022.

The ^-^ variations show even larger peaks around 2018 to 2021. There was a small peak but lower than :3 starting in 2022 to 2024.
