To be fair I do also rely on some proprietary stuff, but that’s like the dumbfuck argument of “You can’t criticize capitalism from your iphone”. I try to keep my use of proprietary software and closed source platforms to a minimum.

Would love it if the situations with discord, playstation, microslop, twitter, etc that we’re seeing play out this year ended up with peoplefinally understaning the importance of open source software and distribution. But I guess that’s just wishful thinking.

I'm at a point where I have to convince people to pay for a premium for a non-essential, in times where the economy and job market is terrible for everyone. And I'm just barely making due. This surely comes across as very whiny and privileged, and I get that. But I'm just anxious about my future.

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Don't get me wrong, I DO think my work is worth what I ask for. But when at most I can make around $600 a month, and rent alone is over half of that... like... what do I do? It's not a question of "just make more commissions". I'm only one person and I'm only so fast when it comes to drawing.

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

My prices are already a turn-off for most people who even ask, and the thought that I'd have to ask an even higher price just to make ends meet consistently is unreal. Everyone always tells you to know your worth and not undersell yourself, but what happens when you out-price most of your audience?

(VENT) It's an... interesting period that I (and many artists) live in right now, where I'm simultaneously selling my work at a higher price than ever ($100+ a comm), but I'm barely keeping up with my rent and bills every month and I just end up accumulating more and more debt as time goes on.

She doesn’t know the iconic level ‘The Library’ from hit 2001 videogame ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’? 😱 The level you can suffer through by playing it on Legendary difficulty and All Skulls On (L.A.S.O.) when you play it on ‘The Master Chief Collection’?

Legit have no idea, never even heard anyone suggest to check that hahahaha Already swapped to Fedora KDE tho, and so far it’s been running well. But only time will tell if I ever get the problem again lol

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Hahaha why not? From what I learned it seems like it’s one of the better supported Wayland distros.

Or this might all not even be related to Xorg in the first place, but I guess there’s only one way to know for sure 🥲

140

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Suspecting the Discord thing may also be Xorg related somehow. I really didn’t want to hop on the Wayland bandwagon cause as much as the community sings its praises, it’s definitely still a work in progress, but given all the problems Xorg has and will continue to have, it may be time.

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Since the freezes are random and not often, I’ve kinda accepted it as a nuisance to deal with every now and then. Now I’ve had the Discord app crashing and restarting every time I screen share with friends so I might have to bite the bullet and try distro hopping to something with Wayland support 😭

CocoMania 🏳️‍⚧️ @cocomaniadx.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

For the past year I’ve been dealing with random system freezing, and I swear it’s some weird interaction between Linux Mint’s Cinnamon DE, Xorg and/or Firefox (it always happens with Firefox doing ‘something’ like opening a dialogue box) but it’s been so hard to pinpoint the actual problem.
