Sure, there are some violent and ignorant people on the far left too. However, stats show the large majority of political violence today is coming from the right. In my life I've seen the centre of politics move dramatically to the right. So my perspective of what's 'far' right may be old fashioned.

Some still believe the US is a world leader but a vote of 164 countries to 1 (the US) to use a more accurate world map is a sign that the world is moving forward without them. Ironically the US called the more accurate map "radical" while shamelessly renaming parts of the world they don't even own.

A year later in 1968 she became pregnant and gave birth to a son.

Thanks for the info on Alice Hamilton. An impressive scientist, and foremost expert on lead poisoning. She was the only scientist on a panel with 6 "industry men" which approved the use of lead. Knocking was not just about annoying noise. The tetraethyllead prevented premature and inconsistent combustion of the fuel in the cylinder which can cause damage to the engine (and noise). It also increases octane rating and efficiency of the fuel. What was the other option and who was the woman?

Wow, the same guy! I forgot about CFCs. I suspect the only reason we still have an ozone layer is because the refrigeration lobby wasn't as strong (wealthy) as the oil lobby. Reducing CFCs was a great example of global cooperation between governments fixing a global problem. We need that again now.

Humans keep on making the same mistake of releasing huge amounts of persistent materials into the environment without properly considering long term effects. After lead came organochlorine pesticides like DDT and more recently plastics and synthetic fibres, not to mention waste from nuclear power.

The idea of putting lead (tetraethyllead) into gasoline was an insane idea from the start. Where did they think all that lead was going? They knew it was toxic, they knew it was persistent, and they knew it was going into the air and environment. They just didn't care. Now they deny climate change 🙁
