which ever comes sooner. the minimum age would mean they have some sort of real life experience not just a political party work ethic. and frankly anyone over the max age limit has had long enough to make a difference already.

there needs to be a minimum and maximum age to be a politician 35 minimum and never worked for a political party for five years before standing and a cut off of 70, so any politician 70 in the year of the election can stand for one final term or if a parliament one term next general election.

Between that gap and the fact that Gardaí still don’t have universal pursuit training, it’s hard not to see this as a basic failure of leadership. Both the former and current Commissioners should be embarrassed that such fundamental capabilities are still missing.

There should be a reciprocal emergency‑response agreement between the Gardaí and the PSNI. Incidents don’t stop at the border, and both services should be able to cross over when lives are at risk.
