How do you know if someone is from Yorkshire? Don't worry, they'll tell you.

- I went on holiday to Rennes - Great Dorset? - Yes, I'd highly recommend it - I think I'm in the wrong joke

The episodes of his podcast -Logroll - I listened were good too. Often got quite into the mechanics of making a living being a writer.

Feel like a lot of people think it's legit because of an instinctive assumption that Britain must be in the wrong.

They're actually showing Serie A and Bundesliga games but just not bothering to tell anyone.

100% this, I keep finding out that BBC is showing things like MLB games or Serie A and Bundesliga games. But no fanfare at all and iPlayer is not very user friendly in terms of seeing what's scheduled.

I can't quite remember what point was being made but I often think about @jonnelledge.bsky.social (I think?) talking about middle class signifiers being cheap cars and expensive houses, whereas other people have the opposite.

Same with bands touring, the Long 90s continues.

I was thinking this the other day. There was some big comebacks in the 90s - Manics, Sex Pistols, Blondie. Seemed crazy to me that bands could come back after 20 years. Now loads of 90s bands have been going continuously for 30 years.

I think I saw Heartbreak Kid on Channel 4 or something years ago - maybe around the time of the Ben Stiller remake. My wife and I still quote the line about the prospect of being together for "40 or 50 years".

Wasn't a film planned for Best Served Cold? Rebecca Ferguson as Monza? Caul Shivers is another interesting casting choice. Lots of work for grizzled northerners.

I have different pairs dotted about the place for when I know I'll need them (e.g. washing up). There's no way that me and charged bluetooth headphones are going always be in the same place at the same time.

StephenC @cnehpets.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Same. I have the opposite as they fall out of my giant lugs. Bluetooth earphones just aren't a solution to any problem I have. And are a downgrade in terms of cost/hassle.

Market it as a Downfall prequel. Third Reich Cinematic Universe.

But also, if you're an ETTA type then "gaining" an extra hour spend at home/in a cafe fretting about when you need to leave is not quality time anyway.

StephenC @cnehpets.bsky.social · 20/04/2026
Also, sitting a home packed and ready to go thinking "I've got to leave in an hour... I've got to leave in 30 mins..." etc isn't really quality time.

The Aztec series was excellent imo. The Irish ones with Paul Rouse/Dan Jackson, French Revolution and Trafalgar/Nelson.

This Rest Is History guys are endearingly shameless in promoting their own stuff on their Podcast. I've often wondered if historian's books they lean on get any bump in sales after a mention. I've definitely added a few to the TBR pile.

We're in starting to see some kids peeling off to private after primary. Some of the parents look for any kind of issues with the state school to justify the decision to go private they've obviously already made.

He is. His characters are especially great. About to start the Age of Madness trilogy - intrigued by the impact of having an industrial revolution changing the world.

Since his name has come up - I saw you recommend Joe Abercrombie ages ago on Twitter and have since then thoroughly enjoyed working my way through them, so a belated thanks.

Moment of the year for me was 28th January when West Indies and England pulled off incredible victories within a few hours of each other. Wonderful to wallow in a mix of cricketing hope, joy and schadenfreude in the middle of winter.
