Finally, HB 671 ("Enact the America First Act") ignores federal immigration laws and the plenary power of U.S. Congress. It aims to deter undocumented immigrants from entering or being present in OH, and somehow it requires them to leave the state <72 hrs after completing their sentence.

HB 666 ("Enact the Protecting Ohio Communities Act") is currently under review by House committee. This would limit sanctuary policies for undocumented immigrants and, as a political message, reinforce federal restrictions of immigrants' use of social services in OH. legiscan.com/OH/bill/HB66...

Next, the OH Senate already passed SB 226, and as of November the House version is still in committee. If enacted, OH will keep a registry of "foreign adversaries and other persons that...constitute a threat to the agricultural production, critical infrastructure, security, or military defense."

Just found out I'm going to be presenting a new paper at @popassocamerica.bsky.social this April on racial/ethnic disparities in temporary release from immigration detention, along with my co-authors Emily Ryo, Ian Peacock, and Weston Ley. Here's the abstract:

Finally moving on from Twitter and hoping to reconnect with folks in greener pastures (and bluer skies I suppose). Hi! Thought I’d share a new paper for my first post, but for the algorithm here’s Bessie instead 🐶
