Little TTRPG Design/GM thread: So playtests of LEATHERBOUND showed that players both loved and ignorant of a GMing technique that I thought was quite common & well known. So I’m explicitly describing it in LEATHERBOUND. I’m calling it the “Chain of Obstacles”

new issue of Vizier Monthly is out

a fake magazine cover with a cruelly smiling old woman in red vaguely Renaissance garb, leaning on a staff with a serpent twined around it. Headlines around her:
So He Saw The Strings: What To Do When Your Lord Thinks He's a Real Boy
Chalices, Knives, Nooses: How's a Girl to Choose?
Why Satraps Rebel: 10 Cautionary Tales
12 Moves For The Ambitious Concubine (and a 13th for the New Favorite!)

I am on record with the group chat that if I get 6 people telling me they want to do gender wizardry with me, I'll give in to the call of the expensive but very pretty box, so I am noting that here for any enablers

I HAVE WANTED TO DO THIS FOR SO LONG. People playing HUNT(er/ed) with me at cons always ask if the deck is still available. It just feels so good to play this way and if you missed it the first time around now is your chance to grab a deck =) =) =)

I also understand the few comments saying they were disappointed by the portrayal of eternal torment after so much ramping up to it, but there is never a good way to show metaphysical and eldritch terrors. The most effect horror monster is the one you never see. The path they chose handled it well.

Read The Power Fantasy vol 3 over coffee this morning and surprisingly been enjoying the Reddit discussions except for the number of people digging on Eliza for being broken by the reality of eternal torment in Hell. That's kind of a big point of Hell. Good intentions can only sustain you so long.

Nono this is the correct take. I did turn Astarion into an experiment and reset him to Fighter (for saving throw proficiencies) before putting him into Rogue, but the most important flavor is Rogue. Feelings live in the fake rules.

In line with some of the other responses, I'd probably say he's Hollywood / model fat and sits around or a little shy of the point most brands will approach to claim "inclusivity." Thinking of Waluigi and Wario as the evil exaggerations of the originals may suggest Mario is meant to be read as fat?

another favourite scientific headline, following confirmation of Einstein's general theory of relativity by observations of the 1919 solar eclipse. "Stars not where they seemed or were calculated to be, but nobody need worry" is a beautiful sentiment. i would have that on a t-shirt

"Lights all askew in the heavens. Men of science more or less agog over results of eclipse observations. Einstein theory triumphs. Stars not where they seemed or were calculated to be, but nobody need worry."
