As part of the Tampa Bay Surveillance Project, grad student AJ Gross is dissecting hundreds of oysters collected throughout Tampa Bay. By analyzing oyster tissues for contaminants, the team can assess the health of the oysters and better understand the ecosystems they support.

🌊The dominant location of sargassum is shifting according to a study published in Nature Geoscience. While some regions such as the Caribbean have experienced unprecedented growth of sargassum, the historic location of the seaweed in the Sargasso Sea has seen drastic declines in the past decade.

🎉 Congratulations to Chuanmin Hu on his recent election as a Fellow of The Oceanography Society! Hu was nominated for his work on optical oceanography and satellite remote sensing. Among Hu’s contributions is his landmark work characterizing the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt.
