I'm wearing a pinball machine today.

The death penalty is inhumane and wrong regardless of how it is carried out. The problem with state sanctioned killing, that's done painfully, isn't really the 'painfully' part as much as the 'state sanctioned killing' part. Having the executions go flawlessly doesn't solve the real problem here.

I want to be clear that I agree that these executions are incredibly inhumane, but I feel they try to get us to focus on the torture and them not being able to get the right medications for the government to more efficiently kill people that we're missing the more important point here.

No, you should definitely buy the airplane.

If "she was asking for it" isn't literally her saying "come sleep with me" then I'm uninterested in anyone's excuses on this point. If anyone ever says someone deserves to be sexually assaulted because (insert literally any justification) just have them sit down and shut up, we don't them around.

I do wonder about how much of it is just ignorance and how much is cold calculation that if you, as a man, know that women are afraid of men, it's so much easier to just try to make them not afraid of you specifically as opposed to trying to change culture entirely so they won't be afraid of any men
000
Clypheous @clypheous.com · 29/09/2026
I've definitely experienced that as well, but certainly not to the extent of some men I know have. At this point in my life I'm confident enough in myself to tell anyone who has a bad opinion on the subject to stuff it, but when I was 14 and developing I doubt I would have been so bold.

American men have been taught since a very young age that showing morality and empathy will get them called weak, pathetic, etc. This is they way a lot of them end up trying to square the cognitive dissonance because just saying "yeah, this is very wrong" has, in the past, caused them to be hurt.

They should also require Russia to unilaterally stop their attacks at least a few days before they stop theirs. There is nothing that Russia loves more at this point than breaking their word if they think it will benefit them on the battlefield. Either way, it's never happening.

What is the line between being demonitized and being taken down entirely? Or is that another line that YouTube doesn't really share and is just "vibes based" by whatever algorithm they have scanning all the content that gets put up?

I still have the one I built for the wildfires when they first started drifting smoke into my neck of the woods. I was amazed to find that it worked incredibly well, the key is that you cannot skimp on the quality of the filters. If you do, it's almost useless.

It's crazy that I've only seen a full episode or more of maybe a dozen of these shows and I think I've only seen a majority of the episodes of 4 of them. I think the only shows on this list I've seen every episode of is Band of Brothers and Chernobyl, made easier by the relatively short series.
000
Clypheous @clypheous.com · 25/09/2026
Thinking of a bunch of the shows on that list as being "recent" then realizing that they are from a quarter century ago reminded me it's time for my back pills, and I probably need to schedule another colonscopy.

I solved this problem by stacking them on top of each other and building custom shelves on each side to mount both units in place. It's awesome for now, but whenever I have to replace one of them it's going to be a HUGE pain.

It was easier for me, I told the doctor we had enough children, he said something like "are you sure" I said "yes" and that was pretty much it. I don't know if my circumstances had been different in some way if it would have been more difficult, but for me personally, it seemed easier than expected

I'm not sure how to do it, but a social condemnation of treating women as objects and making sure your peers are respectful would be a good start. Absolute minimum, if a "friend" makes a joke about assaulting a woman, call it out immediately and make it clear there's no room anywhere for that.

I've been condemning the genocide and the Epstein Class for years now, but I don't think it's likely that anyone would buy any album I put out. I am making a conscious choice to listen to music by people whose politics seem aligned, but you'll never get total alignment with anyone, so I do my best.

coming from, contact those authorities, try to get them to actually do something as well and then arrest someone who will claim it was a prank, or an accident, or they didn't do it. The laws and ability to investigate this type of terrorism are poorly defined. Did you talk to local politicians?
000
Clypheous @clypheous.com · 24/09/2026
The issue is that investigating these things almost always requires multiple people across multiple states to be involved. It's likely this criminal lives somewhere else, so your local police has to be involved, they have to get the phone records, they have to then figure out where the call is...

It's the modern equivalent of waking up with a horse's head in your bed. It's saying "I know where you live and can get you if I wanted to" It's an act intended to terrorize people and make them stop doing whatever it is they are doing.

Also, it's much harder for people to tell that you just got up. Really messed up hair is a key giveaway, but if you don't have any hair, they can't really use that as a tell!

This was my first thought too, but then my brain ALSO caught up with me and decided that it's probably not that kind of interview. Then my next thought was "languages that have this many identical words that mean different things should really be put in the language penalty box or something"

It really seems like "Can't make this up" is now the ending of choice for the GOP when they are writing complete and utter nonsense and lies. Alternatively I suppose it could be "Thank you for your attention to this matter, President Donald J. Trump"

It amazes me that people still see safety in associating themselves with the oppressors. You might temporarily be safe, but only as long as you're of use and willing to submit to their will, as soon as you resist or disagree, you're no longer safe, and easily within their reach for consequences.
020
Clypheous @clypheous.com · 23/09/2026
Absolutely. If someone like Stephen Miller were to decide that you're not the right kind of white, or I'm not the right kind of white, it's easy enough to come up with some reason that we no longer qualify and to then make us an out-group for purposes of consolidating additional power to themselves

Not close enough for the U.S. to let the St. Louis dock and disembark their Jewish refugees before the Holocaust started. One of the darkest days for the U.S., relating to Jews, prior to entry into WW2.

Under this new standard, I would politely request to be made "mildly wealthy" which I interpret as sufficient for only one yacht fleet, six homes and an approximately 20 seat private jet. I can then sell all those things and do something actually useful, like make school lunch free nationwide.

I've never been to the bookstore as I left the state before it was built, but the town itself is very cool. It's close enough to Indy to be a fun sleepy commuter town, but has enough character to be interesting even just living there.

I wonder how much better we could make the country if instead of using these billions on terrible campaign ads, and used it for like children's healthcare, or schools or anything else that's actually beneficial to society.

I think you could have your shirt completely made of cat hair and it's unlikely anyone is going to give you trouble about it. You're successful enough that you cannot be weird, you can only be "eccentric" now, lean into it and make us some awesome new social trends!

I sometimes feel like I'm one of the only people around me that is constantly upset that I can't vote for people who openly want to tax me more and use the money to provide useful services to everyone. It's way more efficient than my trying to donate to a hundred charities to do the same thing.

Do these people just refuse to work for anyone that doesn't act exactly they way their bigoted minds think they should? It feels like if they only accept business from people exactly like them, that business would be pretty scarce. It's never made any sense to me at all, why on earth do they care?

As a result of breaking into my neighbors house, I have lost control of my kneecaps and they have been put out of commission, at least temporarily. This isn't the time to figure out "who broke into which house" or anything like that, it's time we all unify behind me in punishing the kneecapping guy

We just all need to adopt the idea that "Trump is not a source" as an article of faith in the United States. Nothing he says means anything and evaluating it like you would a normal person saying something is useless. Probably worse, in listening to Trump lies true madness.

We need a president who will spend their entire term trying to reduce the power of the presidency, dismantle their own authority and then leave after doing so. I would also like a unicorn, superhuman abilities and to live to 10,000 years old while I'm wishing for things that will never happen.

I completely agree, eventually this house won't be appropriate and I will move. I do not have some attitude of staying here forever, even though I think my wife does to some extent. Planning for "forever" just doesn't feel practical to me, too many things can change over that time horizon.

I'm about his age and I have never once worried about my testosterone levels, or that of anyone else. That's none of my business and not a first responder medical emergency that I would be able to deal with, so not something I've ever worried much about learning.

When we bought our first house at age 26, my wife was concerned about getting a house with stairs because when we're 80, mobility might be an issue. I still maintain that my level of incredulousness about buying a house based on its use case in 54 years is justified.

None of us successful folks made it alone, it's all in association with (or, if you're a bad person, on the backs of) a large number of people that help us do the parts of life necessary to let us do the thing that we're able to do better than most. (my thing is making the best run-on sentences)

If we make it 800 Myr from now on this planet, people are going to celebrate that as a huge achievement...while we watch what's left of the Earth melt into a molten puddle. The better question to me is, "with current technology, could we kill the sun faster?" Asking for a malevolent AI, thanks.

At one point I thought my hair was going to be in a race between going gray and falling out. For some reason, gray decided to give up and has apparently joined forces with falling out, so my hair is barely getting more gray as time goes by, but it's certainly in full retreat.

Once again it appears that, all evidence to the contrary, I am a terrible capitalist as I value the people in my employ as people and try to make sure that they get paid the amount of value they provide. It's impossible to be perfect on this obviously, but I try my best.

If it was only them that this hurt, it would feel justified. They are getting what they voted for and more power to them. The problem is, all the rest of us are along for the economic ride as well and we want off, but that's not how economies work. So it's inflation for everyone, deserved or not.

This is a nightmare for all professionals. It's also going to get way, way, worse before there's enough political and cultural will to deal with it, so that's going to suck for all of us for a bit.
