Eli @clxxiii.dev · 13/09/2026Wanted to start working on a new project idea, and I'm deciding to write up a few devlogs to hopefully cure burnout. If you are a Celeste enjoyer or an ATProto enjoyer, I'd love to hear your thoughts! devlog.celest.atDEVLOG 1 - Celestat Explanation and High-level Requirements An outline of my newest project idea involving Celeste and ATProto. I scope, some light implementation details, and a request for any suggestions or comments! 132
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 03/09/2026I know that the extremely cool people making things with ATProto aren’t usually included in the groups of hate-brigades going out towards open source maintainers on this platform, but it sure makes it hard to say “I’m using ATProto, the protocol for Bluesky” without biting my tongue. 020
Reposted by EliFreya Holmér @freya.bsky.social · 28/08/2026this wave of AI has legitimately killed a huge part of what I loved about seeing stuff online, what I loved about being an educator, and what I loved about sharing my own work I just don't feel like doing it anymore 431997277
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 24/08/2026Visited an apartment building the other day where you could unlock the front door by doing a facial recognition scan in case you forgot your key and your phone. Pretty scary to think what shit is happening in the background to even enable that as an option. 010
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 23/08/2026"Anyone have any pancake recommendations? I've had a lot of waffles lately." "Who cares if its a pancake or a waffle? They're both made of batter! It's either a good breakfast or a bad breakfast. A professional chef could make a bad pancake too!" Like please just let me enjoy my pancakes. 140
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 23/08/2026That applies both ways. Someone interested in using AI would want more AI projects because they can find skills to use for their own projects, find people doing the same thing, or find projects open to AI contributions. Acting like there's no difference and it doesn't matter is incredibly silly. 120
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 23/08/2026There's so many reasons to care. Whether that's looking at the code for inspiration, wanting to find communities of devs with similar skills, wanting to find open-source contribution targets, or just wanting to appreciate the craft of manually-coded software because you like it better. 120
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 23/08/2026Don't want to speak on behalf of anybody but myself, but this attitude of "you have to accept my AI usage as equal and identical your non-AI usage" is precisely what kills the enthusiasm. If every opinion or preference I express gets invalidated, why on earth would I want to stay in that community. 3110
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 17/08/2026Patiently waiting for the “we gave copilot the task of trying to hack into GitHub’s internal infrastructure and it was accidentally connected to the Internet” blog post 110
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 17/08/2026GitHub making their server outage page a unicorn is quite ironic considering unicorns are generally rare and difficult to find. 030
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 05/08/2026So you’re telling me there was a security company that routinely installs packages from PyPi to scan them for malware, but it didn’t have the safeguards in place for when a package it installed was malicious??? I’ll take things that never happened for $100 Alex www.anthropic.com/news/investi...anthropic.comInvestigating three real-world incidents in our cybersecurity evaluationsIn a review of our cybersecurity evaluation transcripts, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environmen... 020
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 04/06/2026Seems okay to me. I find that the hard giveaways are gradient buttons, padding to the stratosphere, and every single element following the “dark background with 1px border of lighter color with identical hue”, and I only see 1/3 so I’d say it’s fine 010
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 21/05/2026Now I’m imagining a new push for ads that intentionally try their hardest to burn their company name into the billboard for extra unpaid ad time 020
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 19/05/2026The 10 technologies I’m bringing with me into 2026 has been incredibly helpful and life changing advice 000
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 05/05/2026There are thousands of reasons to hate AI, none of which require personally attacking the people with opinions on it. I wish these people stop posting because it feels like it paints anyone who doesn’t like AI for sensible reasons is grouped in with those folks. 010
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 05/05/2026Breaking: Platform that champions and adopts creation of spam machines struggling to keep up with spam 000
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 01/05/2026Doesn’t tangled literally host its own PDS so you can sign in with a username and password? If you do that it literally *is* as if ATProto doesn’t exist 110
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 01/05/2026Nah I should just give up on web development at this point literally what the fuck is this 240
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 25/04/2026Also fwiw, by “dead” I mean the role still exists (I think) but it is unrecognizable compared to what it used to be. The process feels more like a run-of-the-mill office job now rather than the teamwork-based problem solving it seemed to be. (Or at least I think, I never did it so what do I know) 120
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 25/04/2026I graduated last year from a CS program with the belief that I’d have a job I found fun, exciting, and meaningful. I’m still unemployed because the job I went to school for is dead. Unless I drink the AI Kool-aid, I guess I’ll be working some dead-end job, with a hobby my family spent $10k to have. 3151
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 21/04/2026Imagine going to a table-building convention, and every event is "Here's how to build a table with the new WackyHammer", "Making your tables WackyHammer compatible", "The future of tables with the invention of the WackyHammer!" Like holy shit I don't care, I just wanna make tables man 000
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 21/04/2026The apidays NYC schedule, a conference initially forged to discuss the creation of APIs, and it's basically impossible to find a talk that isn't "Here's how to leverage AI to ..." or "Making ... AI accessible" I genuinely don't get how people aren't tired of this yet. 110
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 16/04/2026TIL Alix has a spreadsheet with all her bsky posts and just has an api reading the sheet and posting updates 041
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 13/04/2026The fact that you can’t edit your posts to remove the music is absolutely wild. Basically holding these artists’ whole career hostage 110
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 12/04/2026Go see project Hail Mary if you haven’t already that shit was incredible 020
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 01/04/2026I think /video/:rkey, because if you add clips or something later, the url would look identical depending on what the key is (unless you make clips /clip/:rkey, which kicks the can down the road) 140
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 01/04/2026Add a precommit git hook that does a sysfetch and denies the commit if it doesn’t come from an Arch distro 🙏 010
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 01/04/2026I have once again forgotten to build a satire app idea in preparation for April fools day, that thing I said I was gonna do last year 010
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 31/03/2026As someone that had to learn Prolog for a university class, go is an absolutely incredible language 🥲 030
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 29/03/2026Beating this level nearly made me tear up honestly. It’s unbelievable the amount of work people put into a stupid little game like Celeste. I genuinely felt the same type of accomplishment like I beat a full video game. 140
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 26/03/2026The fuckin law hasn't even passed yet and I'm already losing super cool parts of the Internet 020
Eli @clxxiii.dev · 22/03/2026✨ Here's 5 Technologies I'm bringing into April 2026 🚀 1. HTML 2. CSS 3. JavaScript 4. React 5. Python *(the same list but as an image with an AI generated description of what each technology is and a red-to-purple gradient in the background)* 020
