RIP Duncan Sheik. A sweet, sweet man. He had lots of cool guitars, and he played most every one for me. He took me chanting. He recorded "I Am A Pilgrim" for "Transamerica." He wrote heartfelt musicals. May his memory be a blessing.

When I was a young man I lived in Paris for a year. At first, I had no French. Alix and Enak, whose wholesome yet scantily clad ancient adventures were chronicled in a series of bandes dessinees (early graphic novels), were my best language teachers. Soon I was speaking French like an ancient Roman.

In London, Gail's reliably sells a variety of Pretty Good Bread. Good But I've Had Better Bread. For some breads, Denmark-based Ole & Steen (now in the USA, at least in NYC) is better. Both are a heckuvalot better than what you find in U.S. supermarkets, or what factories like La Brea Bakery sell.

One of the things that I think makes Yibo's face work so well is that the angle of the underside of his nose matches the angle of his upper lip, when his face is in repose. Silent film star Bessie Love had something like that going on too.

Next day the Times critic wrote it had the greatest singing by Siegelinde & Siegfried in the history of the universe. I'd regret it but - it was good for me too.

I've long considered Jessie Buckley a profound talent-brave, brilliant, honest, seismic, intuitive, spiritually fearless, the real thing. She dedicated her award to "the beautiful chaos of a mother's heart." As a solo dad of 3 whose babies (now teens) were delivered into my arms, that brought tears.

Pursuit of Jade, 5 eps in. It sure is pretty. The lingering soft-focus shots of the injured Zhang Linghe as he soulfully observes, learns, & patiently suffers as he recovers, are unfairly swoony. The guy cld have no acting talent at all, & the architecture of his face wld still bewitch us.

In the 80s I saw Bloolips, an amazing Brit drag group. The show I saw: A re-enactment of the Bible. But in the 1st scene, Eve wldn't eat the apple. "I don't like apples." All theology went right out the window. Brilliant. Tap-dancing & ukeleles. Drag theater b4 RuPaul & glam drag's takeover.

We want docs in remote rural areas. There are not enuf docs. China has demonstrated that trained AIs can diagnose as well or better than docs. Wouldn't a diagnostic AI under remote supervision of humans be better than no doc at all? Let's not shoot the message because the messenger's an ass.
