Definitely checking this out! "Weinstein Hammons Gallery is pleased to present Paths That Cross, a rare group of works that reflect decades of artistic exchange between Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Lynn Davis."

Laurie Anderson's performance at the Walker Art Center last night was angry, funny, and surprisingly emotional. "What do you do when your country disappears? Where will you go?" Sorry, no photos of the performance, but here's the stage and scans of the program they handed out.

A Note from the Artist

After spending the summer celebrating the 250th year of the Declaration of Independence with its ringing phrases—“we hold these truths to be self-evident”—it seems like a good time to look at the way we talk now. Republic of Love is a way of looking at words, reframing situations. For me it’s also a way to look at some of my older songs and see what those words might mean these days, words like “every man for himself” in the song Big Science and “language is a virus”.

There have been several versions of Republic of Love in the last year ranging from speeches to full band performances. The version presented here at the Walker is unique, dedicated to the people of
Minneapolis and their determination to come to the aid of others and to uphold the time-honored American values of civic responsibility.Excerpt from Republic of Love, 2026

Some say our empire is passing as all empires do.
Ah, America, we saw it, we tipped it over and then we sold it.
I’m standing here in dawn’s early late in a country made of stories. What war is this? What time is it?

It’s not like we didn’t see this coming. There was a blueprint. Called “A mandate for leadership”, it was nine hundred and twenty pages
spelling out the whole thing. But by now words meant the exact opposite or they meant nothing. The experts and the pundits weighed
in. It was a field day for the spin doctors....

Yes we had regrets. Ah yes. There’s the past and there are all these regrets that come with it. And you ask yourself? How did I get here?
But like the great Willie Nelson said, “If we didn’t have regrets we wouldn’t have all that much music.” He also said that 90% of the
people in the world end up with the wrong person and that’s what makes the jukebox spin.

Tonight's program runs approximately 1 hour 45 minutes with no intermission.

Check out this cool laminated prayer card that came with my pre-ordered Creekbed Carter Hogan CD. creekbedcarter.bandcamp.com/album/peasan...
Two sides of a prayer card. One side shows Creekbed Carter Hogan in a cowboy hat and angel wings pouring mustard on a hot dog held up by the devil. The devil is laying on the ground and Hogan is holding them down with one of their cowboy boots. The other side of the card says "Take time for prayer: 'Give me that hot dog!' Amen."

Although Richard Hamilton is often remembered as a visionary early Pop artist, his enduring preoccupation with consumerism, design, and technology proved to be a powerful creative catalyst across the artist's versatile sixty-plus-year career. As a participant in London's Independent Group in the 1950s, he devoted equal attention to glossy US magazines and dense cybernetic theory. Like Marcel Duchamp, with whom he struck up a close friendship, Hamilton was keenly attentive to the seductive charge of industrially manufactured commodities, and his work frequently investigates the constitutive role of desire in structuring the visual field. In paintings like Hommage à Chrysler Corp. (1957) and Hers is a lush situation (1958), erotic body parts and automobile parts become confused and commingled

As a teenager during World War II, Hamilton worked as an engineering draftsman designing tools for mass production, and he returned to industrial design throughout his life as a source of inspiration.

In the latter half of the 1980s, he designed the Diab DS-101 Computer (1985-89), included in this exhibition, which consists of three silver blocks, each containing the hardware for a specific category of functions, stacked vertically on top of a black base. Remarkably, the sleek, minimal computer appears at home both in the gallery and among today's electronic devices—a testament not only to Hamilton's acute design sense but also to his foresight in challenging strict divisions between art and design, high culture and mass culture, aesthetic value and consumer utility. Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I've shortened mine in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways, a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways,
I'll keep from my children. The world is at least fifty percent terrible, and that's a conservative estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged, sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world is at least half terrible, and for every kind stranger, there is one who would break you, though I keep this from my children. I am trying to sell them the world. Any decent realtor, walking you through a real shithole, chirps on about good bones: This place could be beautiful, right? You could make this place beautiful.

I'm still thinking about this art by Yang Yongliang I saw Tuesday at Minneapolis Institute of Art.
Yang Yongliang
Chinese, born 1980
Herding Horses, 2011
Giclee print on fine Art paper
On loan from Yang Yongliang EL2026.26.2
Drawing on the long artistic tradition of imperial horse imagery, Yang Yongliang situates ancient-style herders and eight horses within a ruined contemporary landscape. What first appears like a classical panorama dissolves into collapsed earth, dead trees, abandoned cars, and mountains built from stacked high-rises and industrial structures. The ancient symbolism of the "Eight Steeds"-once associated with imperial virtue and talent recruitment-is hollowed out and reconfigured as a scene of cultural dislocation. The work exposes the impossibility of transplanting traditional ideals into a fractured modern environment, turning the noble horse into an emblem of displacement and loss.Detail from Yang Yongliang's print titled Herding HorsesYang Yongliang's print titled Herding Horses
