Maybe just nostalgia because it (along with Batman: Year Three) were the first comics I ever really read, but I unabashedly love this story. It has all my favorite elements of Batman/Robin. Mostly b/c it is fully grounded in CHARACTERS - Bruce, Dick, and Tim all feel real.

This is tough because of everything we’ve learned about Gaiman since it was made, but dammit if the final panel of The Sandman’s “The Wake” isn’t the perfect ending to that entire story.

Since I just did this for Superman- Quote post with the Batman comic book that was released the month you turned 10. Mine is a classic from Norm Breyfogle and Anthony Tallin.

This is fun. I turned 15 the summer after the Death of Superman story, just in time for his resurrection in June 1993. The comic came in a white polybag which was meant to mirror the black “bleeding S” polybag from his death issue.

The polybag-covered comic as it appeared for sale. The bag was thin white plastic with just a bright red Superman S emblem on it. You can barely see the actual comic book cover through the plastic.

The Secrets of the Batcave is a classic, but I was obsessed with this diagram of Titans Tower as a kid. I tried to build it out of LEGO several times.

A 1968-era diagram of the Batcave heavily influenced by the Adam West TV show. It includes space for a lab, a garage with the Batmobile, a computer room, a trophy room, and various Bat vehicles plus pathways for how each can be launched for action. Like most cutaways, it makes no actual sense but looks cool and has lots of items that we would now think of as "Easter eggs."

A response to my previous post about Tulsi Gabbard being a raging homophobic bigot. The response is from a handle “whatever111111111g” and says, “LBGTQ is almost like a religion. Shouldn’t be controling gov. Now gays, Bi, trans I don’t have a problem with being in government. But the LBGTQ movement is a cult. LBGTQ is nothing but hate and authoritarian control.” I’ve transcribed all spelling and grammar errors as they were originally written.

The page is from one of my favorite semi-forgotten books: Peter David and Gary Frank’s Supergirl in the mid-90s. In it, Supergirl is merged with Linda Danvers, a troubled twentysomething with a dark past and is all about redemption and finding light in darkness.

I know a lot of us are feeling overwhelmed and helpless lately. It’s made me think about what can I do as one person against a mountain of pain and cruelty. And I keep coming back to this scene from a comic book from 30 years ago. A brief thread:

It's 3am and I'm getting home from the 2nd worse day of my life. It was spent in four different vet clinics as I had to watch as my best friend slowly faded from me. His name was Colby and he was my favorite thing in the world. I'm heartbroken and don't know how I'll get through. I miss him so much.
