most stores lose money on self checkout due to errors + shrinkage + maintenance. it's becoming a bit of a trend in retail to remove them. making self-checkout less profitable to operate would likely speed that trend up in nyc

the obvious front runner is being called an unhinged, drug seeking communist and like, hey, those are some of my best friends

getting increasingly depraved/desperate/slanderous election propaganda from a pac in d.c. the most recently one has a man tonguing a money spread. ok. i mean sure. just put whatever on there ig

dressmaker clearly was made by people who obviously love and care about what they were creating + respecting the real life crafts of fashion design + sewing as a whole and that's why it's my GOTY after 6 hrs of playtime 🙂‍↕️

it's a mandrel for shaping metal wire, for hoops or wire wrapping. i have never seen a specific name for it, it's always just a mandrel or is free floating in someone's jewelry making kit lol

ICYMI: My @theflytrapmedia.com piece today is about shifting cultural attitudes towards self-publishing and the hard work indie and hybrid authors are doing while publishing snobs dunk on them.

theflytrapmedia.com

Striking Out the Stigma of Self-Publishing

From the Brontes to 'communist gay wish fulfillment,' writers taking control of their own work is having a(nother) moment. And we like it that way.

tangentially, boo having to work instead of diving into the rabbithole of early 3d film + reactions to it

what're your thoughts on it? the power of a 50 sec film for it to allegedly cause people to run away, blumhouse wishes lol. i guess true or not, it's an example of the credulity of our species (neutral, we are just animals after all)

x-files "i want to believe" poster (UFO above some trees, text on bottom)

i guess what i'm saying is how do we get the tiktok influencers to peer pressure cafes out of charging $1 for plant milk

i don't have the vocab to explain it better but i imagine this is what it was like when newspapers really caught on

seeing the internet go from a niche nerdy place to having genuine impact on people's eating/dressing/spending habits is. idk a bit trippy!

"If eco-social anomie describes a societal forgetting, dam removal achieves the opposite—a collective remembering that cures our amnesia and unshifts our baselines." A beautiful @bengoldfarb.bsky.social story about the centuries-old dams choking New England's rivers, & the people setting them free
