Back in Lusaka after my @bgs.ac.uk colleague Dr David Currie & I lead a 10-day #CriticalMineral field training exercise for the Zambian Geological Survey Department (GSD) & Copperbelt University (CBU). Our Zambian colleagues are now well prepared for future mineral exploration opportunities.

Zambian #CriticalMineral field training started today in Lusaka with Zambian Geological Survey Department & Copperbelt University, lead by my BGS colleague Dr David Currie & me. Part of our training today involved getting to grips with a soil auger! Great to be in Zambia for the next few weeks.

We have upgraded our geomagnetic forecast today (12 November 2025) to the highest intensity level amid an ongoing solar storm. Current predictions suggest that the activity will result in potentially the largest solar storm to hit our planet in over two decades.

Spent the day walking the moorlands between Buxton & Macclesfield - set off from the Cat & Fiddle (still snow here!), walked to Three Shires Heads (where Cheshire, Staffordshire & Derbyshire meet) and back past a lot mine tips & shafts. So lucky with the weather (although the pub was closed!).
