Perhaps, after such a long time, I should introduce myself again: Hi, I’m Petra. I’m interested in football and know quite a lot about the evolution of the rules of the game. I’m also developing my playwriting practice through online short courses at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Given all the lovely things happening this weekend, I really ought to dust off my Bsky account a bit, shouldn’t I?

Why are English TV series such as Midsomer Murders so popular in the UK – and beyond? What sets the Midsomer atmosphere apart from Poirot, Marple & Co.? My half-hour read explores this in an essay-like way. #SkyStorians #AcademicSky #🗃️

After I've not been around for a while, there's a link I'd like to drop. Not only am I writing a book about Midsomer Murders / Inspector Barnaby, but I also saw the stage adaptation of Graham's first Barnaby novel, The Killings at Badger's Drift.

Can anyone tell me what this Irish jig(?) is called? No music recognition software can tell me. (Since you can't attach audio files here, I made a video and recorded the music.) Feel free to repost.

Me on Sunday: Okay, Petra, the book manuscript is now really finished. Anything else would just water down the essence. Collegue (in a completely different context) on Monday: I recently read that this and that. I didn't know that at all. ... Well, neither did I, but it's very relevant to the book.

My first go at pulling together all the Midsomer Murders actors who are actually related! I’m sure there are still a few missing, but I’ll be adding more over the next few days. ➡️ midsomermurdershistory.org/real-life-re... #MidsomerMurders #InspectorBarnaby

Oh, it's already been two and a half months since I met Annette Badland. It was so amazing. And when she walked past me in the hotel corridor on her way to her room, I wished her “good night” and she replied “good night, darling”... 🥹❤️
Annette sits at a dining table, smiling warmly. She wears a dark grey patterned top. In front of her are bowls of soup, glasses and cutlery. Other people in brightly patterned shirts are partly visible on either side. The setting is in a conservatory restaurant with wooden blinds in the background.Annette Badland and me smiling, sitting closely together in front of a wooden wall. Annette on the left wears a dark grey top with a subtle pattern. Me - on the right - have curly blonde hair and wear a black dress with lace detail at the neckline, a watch and a thin bracelet.

In June 1826, 9 travellers with English-sounding names signed the guestbook in Klopp Castle at Bingen on the Rhine. However, I have only been able to identify 3 of them. The others either did not provide their forenames or gave no titles, making identification difficult. So how to identifying them?🧵

Friday. I've started researching the names (not too deep for the sake of numbers). And I'm already racking my brain. What do I do with all the ones I can't identify? I'll make a new thread for that. Maybe one of my followers who are researching Britain's Romantic Period will have an idea?

My first appointment tonight 🥄
A young man in formal evening wear holds a candelabrum with four lit candles, standing in front of a door marked ‘10’. Behind him, a group of similarly dressed young men gather, partially obscured in the dim lighting, creating a mysterious and solemn atmosphere.

My spring tradition: When it's 20 degrees outside for the first time (and I'm at home), I drink a glass of rum in the garden. This year: Don Papa Baroko. Cheers!
A close-up of a hand holding a tulip-shaped glass of amber-colored rum in a sunny spring garden. The background is softly blurred but shows a vibrant flowerbed, green grass, trees, and a small garden shed under a clear blue sky.

I thought it'd be interesting to see all Brits who signed the guest book at Klopp Castle in Bingen on the Rhine between 1826 and 1914, to see which honours and celebrities were there. Well… got. more than 2000 names, and I've already deleted the duplicates and entries with illegible surnames. 😵‍💫 🗃️
The picture shows a picturesque Rhine landscape with a ruined castle on a steep rock on the left, a calmly flowing river in the centre and a town with churches and fortifications in the background. The colouring and style suggest a watercolour painting from the late 18th or early 19th century.

What I wanted to do: read a bit and do some freelance work. What I did: added a pillar page with texts & links to my website, designed the homepage with a new theme, lost my nerve several times because I couldn't find small errors in the Wordpress customiser, then finally found them and fixed them.

It's official, I have hay fever. Birch and house dust are my nemeses. (But the latter is not quite as bad.) Maybe my diagnosis of "chronic rhinitis" seven years ago was really hay fever?

"And so it is hardly surprising that the 1886 Laws of the Game are almost identical to the 1885 FA Rules. The big exception: the throw-in (in the form still used today) is Scottish! However, the Scottish offside rule was not included in the LoG."

I know that referee announcements are currently being tested in football (m) in Germany (1st and 2nd Bundesliga, German Cup) and England (Carabao Cup). Are there any other tests in this second half of the season? I've already tried to search online, but the results are very location-biased.

☑️ Milestone. You can't believe how relieved I am. Over the last few weeks, I've thought several times that I'll reach the milestone when I've done X after all. But then I realised that there were other related tasks that needed to be completed. Now all the tasks are done and there are no more left.

My cat has a bruised hip. She's been on painkillers since Thursday and has been jumping up and down on the sofa without a problem. Until tonight when she got into a fight with another cat. Now she is limping again and can only pull herself up on the sofa (but is otherwise behaving quite normally).

I've been on the fence about buying a used scientific book It was published over 50 years ago, but it's still quite expensive even as a second-hand book. Now I've now found one that's not too expensive. It's not in the right price range, but ... I finally bought it.
