🌊 A strengthening nor’easter is bringing heavy rain, strong winds, dangerous surf, and coastal flooding along the U.S. East Coast this weekend! Coastal flooding has already affected portions of Virginia and North Carolina, with ocean overwash closing a miles-long stretch of road on the Outer Banks.

🌡️ Excessive heat warnings are in effect across 17 states, with high temperatures expected to reach into the 100s. Even for late August, max temperatures are as much as 10°F to 15°F above-average, particularly in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

There’s a climate connection here: 🌡️ #Lala passed over Pacific waters up to 3°F warmer than average — a level of ocean warmth made 30–70x more likely due to climate change. 🌧️Rainfall would occur either way. But warmer water adds more moisture into the air, which can fuel heavier rainfall.

🦟Mosquito season is getting longer, and the buzz is not so good. #ClimateCentral analyzed "mosquito disease days" in 239 major U.S. cities from 1970–2025 — days with temperatures suitable for spreading West Nile virus — and found that 95% of these cities saw an increase.

🪸New research led by #ClimateCentral finds that climate change — not El Niño — is driving coral bleaching worldwide. The study published in @tosoceanography.bsky.social shows that nearly every global bleaching event over the past 40 years would not have occurred without human-caused #ClimateChange.
