Small companies break the law. Large companies influence lawmakers to change the law to their benefit. Both result in less tax and the second approach is technically legal. I think most voters find the second approach even more distasteful than the first.

Oh my! This is shocking! What? 40% of all sick days taken by your staff are Fridays and Mondays!

Maybe so it can take part in botnet parties? I think the monkey in you would enjoy the thought of your toothbrush being involved in taking down national infrastructure.

You don't. But then my comment doesn't describe my behaviour. That's why today I tried tiramisu in a can from a Japanese vending machine by the side of the road. It was ... an experience. And still a better coffee drink than Starbucks 🤣

People like consistency. Big chains are reliably mediocre. You know what you're going to get and that's what's important. Small independents can be great. They can also be terrible and you have to navigate a new menu every single time.

Given that large chunks of the country vote en-masse for one party or the other, I don't think any of the current generations "think for themselves". Maybe filtering through the noise with specific questions will give a more informed vote.

I always wonder why non-socialists use 'we'. 'We' don't own any oil. Oil companies do. Unless you're planning to take control of the means of production, I don't see how you can expect to get preferential treatment to other buyers.

Reading the bill, yes I absolutely do. However we don't seem to have any safeguards in place right now to prevent the slow torturous and painful death of thousands pensioners by starvation and advanced chronic illness.

When economic benefits go disproportionately to a small rich class, you'd struggle to make that argument either.

Reminder that there's no such thing as live results. The result is only a thing when (almost) all the votes have been counted. The fiction that you can present the incomplete picture is what allows charlatans to claim that elections are stolen when there's a late shift in "results".

MPs who do not work full time should be sacked. No outside jobs. Every FT job I've had has had a contract that says I can't also work other jobs.

I'm not sure I'd agree. Yesterday I was looking at book about music with my kid. It said that the earliest voice recording was Thomas Edison. So we looked it up on t'internet for audio. Turns out it was 20 years earlier (see wiki Phonoautograph). With just the book, we'd have accepted it as fact.

I use a browser in incognito mode that just throws away the cookies and history. It needs to be coupled with a password manager otherwise I'd spend my life logging into stuff (because no cookies means no memory).

Here's a similar summary from the bank of england: www.bankofengland.co.uk/explainers/h...

How is money created?
Most of the money in the economy is created by banks when they provide loans.

They did. But the fact that it wasn't 9-0 means that you can't use the text of the constitution as a guide to what will happen in reality. The shifting political allegiances are clearly more important than documents and books.

In practice, its not amazingly helpful. It's badly worded to a modern English reader, and even when obviously clear (eg 14th ammendment), that doesn't seem to be understood by the SCOTUS, so I'm not sure is a practical guide on how government works.

I love that the two simultaneous reasons are 1) it's better for AI users and 2) it's better for users who are sick of AI. Maybe, just having a tool that does what you ask it to isn't a bad thing?

I'm not American, just watching with amazement, but it looks to me like the text books are kind of irrelevant. We see that the president can wage war and spend money without congressional oversight and the supreme Court now appears to be a department of the executive and the FCC used as a censor.

A 3rd party appeared. It was the MAGA/Trump party. It ate the Republican party like a python eating a goat. More than two parties is pretty unstable in a first-past-the-post system because the money doesn't flow to the minor parties.

I don't think this is a good idea. Why make solar worse and more expensive to install than just putting it in a field, angled appropriately, and with the cooling effect of free airflow? This is surely just going to be covered in dust, oil, and whatever happens to the toilets on a train.

I'm the exact opposite. I can finish audiobooks pretty easily, but more than two paragraphs of writing on a page and my mind just wanders off.

The comparison with assembly is not really valid. A higher level language may resolve to assembly, but the source code still gives you deterministic behaviour. A vague series of prompts (that may not even be recorded) does no such thing.

There's near zero information about local candidates and how they perform in a council setting. Pretty much all you have to go on is a sentence or two that they themselves wrote.

When you've got humans operating in a huge backlog, this isn't surprising. It would also happen without AI (poor and incorrect decisions under pressure) but wouldn't be as headline worthy.
