It is often used to season fish, but it is also commonly used with eggplant, whether roasted or grilled. Here, that traditional combination is paired with creamy cannellini beans to create a more substantial dish that works as a simple meal or as part of a larger spread. Everything comes together on one pan: The roasted eggplant absorbs the chermoula directly on the sheet pan, while the beans pick up all the flavors left behind. Using smoked paprika instead of regular sweet paprika lends a subtle smoky depth, and adds another layer of flavor to the dish. A finishing spoonful of Greek yogurt is not traditional, but is still highly recommended: Its cool creaminess cuts through the bold flavors of the chermoula and balances the dish. Serve warm, ideally with flatbread.</p>

Swap the ham for tuna, tofu or strips of surimi (imitation crab)--or leave the meat out. Rinsing the cooked noodles until cold running water helps clear out the starch and also firm them up so that they have a bouncier texture.</p>

The City’s ACFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the GFOA program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report, according to a press release. </p><p>The GFOA Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. This is the tenth consecutive time that the City of Avon Lake has received this recognition.</p>

To nail that textural balance, use thick, restaurant-style tortilla chips -- or fry your own -- the thin supermarket varieties will sadly turn to mush. This recipe coats the chips in just a small amount of smoky, citrusy tomatillo salsa, which helps them withstand the egg cooking process and retain their bite. Using the same skillet to char the salsa ingredients and cook the eggs on top of the chips streamlines prep and clean-up. The addition of canned black beans adds heft, making this an ideal breakfast-for-dinner meal. Serve it doused with the remaining salsa and generous scoops of sour cream and avocado to offset the heat and acidity.</p>

Highlander shortbreads are rich, buttery cookies with a crumbly-soft texture and a sweet, crunchy Demerara sugar edge, inspired by the classic Scottish Walker's Shortbread.

<p>These thick and buttery shortbread rounds are a riff on the ones sold by Walker’s Shortbread in Scotland. The main point of difference between Highlander shortbread and other varieties is the sparkly Demerara sugar that coats the edges, adding a distinctive sweet crunch. Using a small percentage of rice flour or cornstarch in the dough gives these an especially crumbly-soft texture while using all wheat flour makes them slightly snappier. Use what you have, relish the results.</p><p>Total Time: 2 hours</p>

Sardine and avocado toasts combine creamy avocado and savory sardines with a garlic-rubbed crusty bread base, finished with a tangy vinaigrette made from seasoned sardine oil for a quick, flavorful snack.

<p>Together, sardines and avocado make a rich pair. Here, the combination is balanced by rubbing a raw garlic clove on the warm toast and stirring together a vinaigrette right in the sardine tin using its seasoned oil. (You could also add capers, chives or everything bagel seasoning for more punch). Instead of slicing the avocado, scoop it out with a spoon, so that the vinaigrette can pool inside the little nooks instead of slipping off the toasts. Now’s also a great time to use smoked or seasoned sardines.</p><p>Total Time: 10 minutes</p>
