I love that this medical entomology professor turned a "we found a weird bug" moment into a teaching exercise and a paper for her class. (1/2) www.udel.edu/udaily/2026/...

Bats and bat-flies Last night I tagged along to collect Nycteribiids from Daubenton’s bats. Great to see these dipteran weirdoes - flies with no wings, no eyes & giving birth to live young. 😎🪰 @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @royentsoc.bsky.social

The hover flies are emerging here in the Midwest! I simply love this video of Eupeodes caught on a ring camera, emailed to me by a member of the public 😂 #Syrphidae #Diptera #falsespring

Spring is right around the corner and the beautiful rotten smell of skunk cabbage is in the air! A fascinating local example of sapromyophily - flowers that smell stinky to attract fly (and beetle) pollinators. #diptera #pollination

Day 13 #InsectAdvent & have you decorated the tree yet? What about this tree? This in fact the hairy whorls of a male Chaoborid or Phantom midge’s antennae. Packed full of sensors, this ‘tree’ is more than a mere decoration @royentsoc.bsky.social @dipterists.bsky.social
