Great insights. Should be noted that if you remove the carbon layer from the Pureburg (easy to do) you actually get a CADR boost above the original OEM filter with the HEPA component being the same thickness. bsky.app/profile/clea...

They are likely the same generic device white labeled under many different brands, but not aware of any specific testing of the Lorell 420 device.

This specifies the conditions under which that risk was calculated (even then it would be challenging to read this chart reliably due to the additional variables of emission rate which can vary by orders of magnitude due to variables such as emitter’s viral load, vocalisation etc)

You would need to be running them on the lowest speed at 153CFM each unless it was a very noisy classroom and you could run them at a higher speed.

Which is why the presence of multiple whitelabelled versions of the same device can somewhat hedge against this risk. Here is an outdated list of sources for alternative filters simp.ly/publish/0P5fBm Absolute worse case scenario, the IKEA Starkvind filter is the same width, just a little shorter

Thanks to feedback, the air cleaner recommendation tool at filters.cleanairstars.com now allows you to disable the WHO’s minimum 160L/s total clean air delivery rate recommended in the “Infection prevention & control in the context of COVID-19: a guideline, 2023” in the advanced section.

Interested to know what these are in the screenshot below. Do you know what the clean air delivery targets are? Either the space volume (for air changes per hour) or occupancy (for L/p/s)?

We know the risk of transmission of viruses like SARS-CoV-2 during outside interactions is an order of magnitude or less than indoors. The only question is how we cost-effectively approach this level of risk in our indoor environments. mas.to/@cleanairsta...

You would want to know whether Trotec had the ioniser activated during their testing which would inflate the CADR and explain the drop in this study if it was used without it. Ionisers cause PMs to stick to surfaces (including the occupants and potentially their airways) www.epa.gov/sites/defaul...

A reminder that for air filters, the lowest efficiency of removal is seen for particles around 0.3µm in size. Particles smaller than this are removed by diffusion, those larger by inertial impaction and interception.

You can hide the filters with some fly screen without significantly impacting flow (see image). Alternatively you should see if you can rent devices like those from @smartairuk.bsky.social for larger events with poor ventilation.

This cannot be repeated enough. The cost-effectiveness of cleaner indoor air as a public health intervention depends on the cost. Clean air delivery is a commodity. CADR/$ under a given noise level. Upselling with unnecessary & costly features simply reduces the cost-efficacy of the intervention.
