I was responding to the comments that Emma and the Majority Report hosts are making about Tim and the other people at the Bulwark. They brought Tim into it.

The DSA supporting “base” isn’t nearly big enough to win elections, especially in Florida. Politics involves compromises.
100
Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 1h
Yes, it was a good answer. Do you think I don’t support Angie Nixon, or that the people at The Bulwark don’t support her?
100
Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 1h
Meanwhile Republicans have called Democrats “communists” for as long as I can remember and people like David Brooks say nothing because they support that kind of rhetoric. David should have an overpriced airport double whiskey and shut the fuck up.

And Dems can land on “secure borders with opportunities for immigration and a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people who’ve been here for a long time,” which is where people are headed after Trump fumbled the issue with his brutal deportation policy.

Do you understand why a DSA affiliation might be a problem for important constituencies in Florida, specifically?

What office is Neera running for? Interviewing people is different than platforming candidates running for office. And Nixon did distance from DSA if you listened to how she answered Tim’s question.

I think the Democratic Party should wield power instead of critiquing it from the sidelines while fascists wield power. And if that means endorsing independents in states like Nebraska and Montana, that’s fine. Are Dems discarding democracy when they back Bernie in Vermont, who isn’t a Democrat?
100
Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 1h
Yes, they recognized that Tester lost in 2024, and that the best course of action was to endorse an independent. You, a dumbass, thinks that’s why the Dem will lose in Montana, because you don’t know how elections work.
100
Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 1h
She has a chance to win, but giving her a softball question that allows her to distance a bit from DSA helps her, not hurts her. If Tim didn’t want her to win, he wouldn’t be interviewing her in the first place.

If you think everywhere in the US has the same politics as New York City, you don’t understand the US well enough to comment on our political landscape. And how are things going in the U.K. these days?
010
Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 1h
It’s Montana. Jon Tester couldn’t win there in 2024, so the idea that the problem is local Dem Party leadership is just stupid.

This is the woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize over the Great United States of America, whose Representative, ME, settled eight Wars, and many other things. I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel. I don't know what the woman has done. I settled 8 Wars, with letters being sent from every President and Prime Minister from the countries that I helped to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and I'm about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and, Russia/Ukraine.
They're both happening at breakneck speed but, forget them, it's the 8 that l've already settled, any one of which, in particular, Pakistan and India, would be far more than necessary to win the Nobel Prize. In actuality, I should have won & Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1. The 8 Wars are:Cambodia and Thailand Kosovo and Serbia
The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda
Pakistan and India
Israel and Iran
Egypt and Ethiopia Armenia and Azerbaijan
Israel and Hamas
Additionally, I stopped Iran from having a Nuclear Weapon, and blowing up the entire Middle East and, ultimately, far beyond! I saved more lives than anyone in History and, as Maria Corina Machado, a truly fine person, stated to the Media when she gave me her Nobel Prize of last year, "Donald Trump settled many Wars, and deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than any person that has ever received it." Based on my record of PEACE, a record like no one else has ever achieved, I agree! I got back all of the hostages in Israel, including the final 28, both living and dead, and worked with Hamas toPEACE, a record like no one else has ever achieved, I agree! I got back all of the hostages in Israel, including the final 28, both living and dead, and worked with Hamas to do it — Nobody believed this was possible! | removed the World's Evil Dictator, Nicolas Maduro, from Venezuela, and am in the process of making Venezuela a rich Democracy. Likewise, with Iran, I stopped them from destroying Israel, the Middle East, and Europe. I am also preventing, on a constant basis, a War between South Korea and North Korea, and Japan and North Korea.
Add China and Taiwan, and numerous other not spots, which have not been involved in Wars, only because of President Donald J.
Trump, and the United States of America. I am responsible for having NATO countries increase spending from 2% to 5% of GDP, creating a stronger alliance and defense, another thing that everybody said was impossible to do. I have negotiated the release, and secured the return, of more than 900 political prisoners from multiple countriesanother thing that everybody said was impossible to do. I have negotiated the release, and secured the return, of more than 900 political prisoners from multiple countries in Eastern Europe. Additionally, I have brought 196 hostages HOME from captivity, from all over the World, and did it without having paid a ransom, unlike Biden and Obama who would pay Billions of Dollars. On top of it all, I have created a soon to be very prosperous Arctic.
Despite all of this, the Nobel Prize was given today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations, who nobody has ever heard of. In all of the Wars that I have settled, I never spoke to the United Nations-they were of no help. The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn't. This is an indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten. The Nobel "Peace" Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization! President DONALD J.

And I’m not even against DSA, but people have to understand that brand of politics doesn’t work everywhere. It’s fine for Mamdani in New York, but it makes sense for Nixon to distance from it somewhat to run in a general in Florida where Cubans and Venezuelans are major constituencies.

Clay Ranck @clayranck.bsky.social · 2h
DSA had a handful of candidates win primaries, and yet she’s treating it like it’s the only constituency that matters in the entire Democratic Party. I like Mamdani, but his brand of politics doesn’t work everywhere in America.

Seeing these people crash out over the Bulwark a month before the midterms is fascinating. Tim Miller asked Angie Nixon a softball question about DSA, and apparently that makes him the enemy and not the Republicans.

The NYPD just released surveillance video of the ICE shooting (which occurred off camera). Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driver’s side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.

Your instincts are correct. We have nothing to be ashamed of in punishing this criminal. I think we should see what our government does. And I think there is value to showing justice being delivered. But this weird ritualization of the death penalty and hiding it, as if it's something shameful, needs to end.

I philosophically oppose the death penalty.
But, given that it exists, and if we're going to do it, I'm not exactly sure what's so bad about doing it via firing squad or in public view.
I get the objection to it being a spectacle... but also, if we're, as a society, going to literally kill someone, why shouldn't we be forced to observe what we are doing rather than look away and have it handled behind closed doors?
I dunno, I'm still thinking through this.

A reminder that when Trump was asked about health insurance back in 2017, he repeatedly said stuff that made it clear he doesn’t know the difference between health insurance and life insurance.
In an interview published Wednesday, President Donald Trump told The New York Times that young people pay $12 a year for health insurance. "Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, you're 21 years old, you start working and you're paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you're 70, you get a nice plan," he said.It is possible that he may have misspoken and meant to say "$12 a month," since, in an interview this spring with The Economist, Trump made the same argument, only he cited a figure of "$15 a month."
Insurance is, you're 20 years old, you just graduated from college, and you start paying $15 a month for the rest of your life and by the time you're 70, and you really need it, you're still paying the same amount and that's really
insurance.
