The original as drafted was bad too. And it doesn't appear there's any campaigning going on at all in support of the amendment.

This entire debate: "Governor Moore, you said something my colleagues said was stupid shit. Will you say that stupid shit tonight?" "Mr. Cox, you are an unhinged bat. Will you sweat profusely while acting like an unhinged bat tonight?"

You don't think he's going to pick up some votes by Glonzo-ing harder on data centers? Why hasn't Moore called for a moratorium!!?? Cox simply defies characterization on the political spectrum!

I've only watched half of it so far, but I continue to be extremely impressed by the commitment of the Old Line State's political press to maintain a veneer of a "the whole country's eyes are upon you" contest and not phone it in like the GOP gubernatorial candidate:

On to Day 6 of #tokentober! One thing I like to do for my personal tokens is reuse incredible art from Magic's past that never got enough love (vanilla creatures, unplayable bulk, etc.). So here's a resurrection of Steven Belledin's (original Yorion artist!!!) Yavimaya Wurm from M11:

It's all very curious. My assumption is that the op came together very quickly (with a very specific, possibly hasty timing window), there was inadequate planning for forces dispersed from Camp Arifjan, and commanders vastly underestimated Iranian capabilities - especially target density.

Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Hegseth also specifically referred to it as "fortified," if not for a damn squirter.

This was part of his "too much training make warrior big mad" era before he shifted to his "more training, fewer [GEN X SLUR]" schtick
120
Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Granted, a lot of secondary stories are confusing Camp Arifjan with the actual Port Shuaiba "annex" facility, but it doesn't look like there was much consideration given other than "dispersal"

I've been roundly mocked for suggesting that a SECDEF's actions could very easily kill people, that NO, the US military is simply too big, too "institutional." Then they killed that kid at Lackland with their vaccine horseshit, and fewer grunts trained in Combat Lifesaver will have real impact.

Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Just something to remember, but Pete made exactly this kind of battlefield first aid training optional

CENTCOM has medical planners. ARCENT has medical planners. There *was* a theater-wide medical plan. The answer to how things at this functionally FRONT LINE base got so fucked up is simply that their medical officer was transferred to Jordan? A lot of people should get busted for this.

I am not privy to insider info on the facility itself, but it continues to be insane to me that: 1) the medical PACE plan was "git fuxxed"; and 2) they weren't simply sent to CONUS Role 4s to get checked out after they were moved to LRMC.

There are two types of Man on the Street / Focus Group pieces: 1️⃣ GOP plant bemoans Democrats, confirming persistent question journalist likes to reinforce about one party in particular while pretending to be a neutral arbiter 2️⃣ Random, incomprehensible, contradictory thoughts from average voters

I don't think the decision to pursue and publish the story turns on who he voted for in 2020 or 2016, but I do think it turns on them willfully not questioning whether he lied about it.

Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I think undoubtedly they do. He admits he voted for Trump, and the piece is fundamentally a Crash (2004) piece about how we are visited by the consequences of our actions. The "lifelong Democratic voter" is a detail, but not load bearing imo.

This is the part of the whole thing that really solidifies it in my mind as a true Ohio Guy story: the purposeless, easily debunked lie to a person who is both sympathetic to him and offering him a voice

The debacles of the early Iran War (at least medical) are defined by some shocking levels of complacency, lack of readiness and preparation, and shitty operations planning - saved by the steady state work folks had done for decades that wasn't "lethal" or "warfighting," and derided by Pete as woke

I imagine the IG has more to say on a lot of this than what was initially released open source:

Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Another reminder that LRMC, "the US military's primary medical hub overseas," is not actually that huge and its capacity is limited. That's not an excuse for kicking wounded aside, but it looks like terrible planning and a concern that they needed to ensure capacity for future MASCALs.
160
Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Maybe that's mean. It stopped at Don't Get Hit + Rotary Will Always Save You, which, as we see here, will get troops killed and more seriously injured. I have also not heard much good about whatever it was that went on with med admin at LRMC once casualties got evac'd. Someone fucked up there.

Clay Copper @claycopper.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
This is a key difference before having these troops set up in Kuwait vs Jordan or the UAE: the medical support options were considerably worse. The PACE plan was basically the Survivability Onion and everyone stopped at Don't Get Hit. Good thing we could use allies' civilian hospitals

The reporting here had to be read in full. The sheer number of troops going on the record here seems wild:

I agree entirely with the sentiment here about how cool it is to collect and play foil C/Us, and regardless of the policy WotC needs to finally fix their damn foils because their foiling looks like complete ass on at least 75% of the cards
