The US can't quit wars because it can't win wars. Winning has become harder as foes have succesfully adopted cheap assymetric warfare techniques. Without a win, US leaders are left to find excuses or distractions for the loss - or they choose to fight on hoping some other leader is left to say stop.

It all comes down to how your country generates electricity. In Australia, where that study was conducted, over 60% of electricity comes from non-renewable sources, while in, say, Sweden, it's 1.2%. EVs make perfect sense in Sweden - rather less so in Australia.

Grok and ChatGPT are just two of many AI systems in use or development. With Gemini and Claude, the need doubles, and better models are needed, currently relying on more powerful hardware. Future developments may alter this, but that's the current focus.

I would suggest all of those are variations of just two: inequality and climate change. AI and social media contibute to inequality (both real and perceived). Inequality causes conflict - both local and international. And all the while, the environment changes faster than we can adjust.

While they are accelerating due to Ai I'd mention loss in trust in the veracity of images, and the commoditisation of photography. The latter means that images are created en mass by anyone with little regard for meaning or quality.
