What can have taken Prof. Leigh to the home of Lodge No. 1 in Edinburgh on Saturday, the oldest active masonic lodge in the world? It was a thoroughly enjoyable seminar run by Lodge Sir Robert Moray 1641 on masonic history. They could not have been more welcoming to this academic outsider.

The Museo del Novecento in Milan has a display of the most delightful busts by Marino Marini (1901-80). Definitely something of late-Republican verismo about them. A highlight of our visit last week.

Charlotte Hampson of St Anne's has just taken Distinctions in the Preliminary Exams for both Latin and Portuguese. In the process she hoovered up three University prizes. Given that she also won Blues in Touch Rugby and Gymnastics, it's been quite a first year for her.

Margaret Hubbard was indeed one of the greatest scholars of her generation. The commentaries on Books 1 and 2 of Horace's Odes that she co-authored with Robin Nisbet are indispensable, but her favourite poet was Propertius, on whom she published a wonderful monograph in 1974. We salute her.

The evidence suggests that Poppit thoroughly enjoyed St Anne's JCR welfare puppy petting this afternoon. We knew that she was distantly related to a wolf, but maybe an otter as well?

In the name of embodied research, first year St Anne's students Harvey (Pentheus), Alice (Cadmus), and Hannah (Tiresias) made their own translation of Bacchae 170-370 and performed it for a select audience (Prof. Leigh). We then discussed what this revelatory experience had taught us.

The Darwin-Dohrn Stazione Zoologica and Museum in Naples contains this 1837 sketch by Darwin of the gradual separation of species of coral. To a Classicist it looks rather like a stemma illustrating the manuscript tradition of an ancient work. Lachmann's edition of Lucretius was published in 1850.
