BA and MA Classical Studies although been swinging the lead a bit since. Trying my hand at blogging classicalstudiesman.com but a bit eclectic. Love drama - theatre, tragedy and comedy with a soft spot for reception, sensory studies and women's history

#tinyjoys Nothing quite beats a vase with home grown flowers. We’ve been trying to grow sweet peas for a couple of years without success (my fault for not watering enough) so, although there aren’t many, we’re taking this as a win.

A painted 16th century house. Uncovered quite by chance the wall painting have been beautifully preserved and the quality and detail are just astounding – AND IT’S FREE. If you haven’t been, thoroughly recommended with lovely countryside and other historic towns and cities within easy reach.

Last weekend we went near Worcester for a granddaughter’s 21st (the kicker is she isn’t the oldest grandchild), anyway we took the opportunity to meander back through the Malvern Hills which took us to Ledbury. Not been before but what a beautiful place. Walking around we stumbled across a real gem.

For all you Latin fanatics. I thought of this today and thought it could be fun for you. Having said that I would be amazed if anyone nows its context or where it comes from but, suffice it to say, it means a great deal to me - I know it by heart.

I was only saying yesterday about not learning from history 'Consider the vast influence of accident in war, before you are engaged in one. For the longer a war lasts, the more it becomes an affair of accidents and chances. Twists of fate that none of us can foresee, risks taken in the dark.

Small, beautifully formed and packs a punch
Some museums can be just like the last one, blending into one another, buildings with rooms of artifacts in display cabinets too close to each other, surrounded by people so it is difficult to get a good view - but not this one. It might not be the biggest but is one of the best, the Corfu Archaeological Museum in Corfu Town.
