My Eastercon so far: Missed my train but just made it to the Opening Ceremony. Had to run out of the very first panel when husband called needing to take dog to emergency vet. Poor 5yrold thought dog was dying (dog is not dying: has pulled off a claw). Luckily then I found coffee and good friends :)

I introduced my son to the Romans yesterday, or I tried to! He wasn’t super interested in most of it, he just wanted to follow the folklore creatures trail that English Heritage had set up, but he was a bit freaked out by the strigil, which he said was “too scary”!

Ironically Hyde Park, home of free speech at Speakers’ Corner and the start for the UK’s first Pride March, came from the abuses of power by one of our more tyrannical kings. Henry VIII took the land from Westminster Abbey in the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536. We had a lovely time there :)

The hardest thing about adapting existing stories is having to deal with material I would never choose to write about otherwise. My cover illustration for Ghost Stories from Ancient Greece is from a story with some very disturbing content which I mentioned in my story as briefly as possible!

These are witch marks in St Mary’s Church, Enville, South Staffordshire. They are medieval graffiti, not intended to be sacrilegious, but to defend medieval church-goers against devils and demons. They are found in lots of places around Britain.
