I've now completed the mainline Final Fantasy set for my PS1 collection! Next are Tactics and the anthology collections, then on to a complete NA set of PS1 SquareSoft titles. ✌️😁

I've planned out my gaming road map for the rest of the year: 1. Donkey Kong Bananza 2. Silent Hill 2 (Platinum Run) 3. Ghost of Tsushima 4. Ghost of Yotei 5. Shinobi - AoV 6. Silent Hill f Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4 will slot in when they announce release dates.

I love retro games, but I don't often enjoy going to retro game stores. The selection usually isnt that great, there are stickers and dirt all over the cases, and the employees get all cagey when you want to hold and inspect games yourself. Anyway, I got a copy of Kingdom Hearts. #PS2

I'm seeing these three games get compared a lot online, so here's my (unsurprising) ranking: 1. Astro Bot 2. Donkey Kong Bananza 3. Super Mario Odyssey

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 should be remade together as one game where you kind of go back and forth between the two stories.

010

ClankStarr 🇦🇲 @clankstarr.bsky.social · 19/07/2025

Astro Bot is the best game game PlayStation has ever made. Donkey Kong Bananza is the best game Nintendo has ever made. We're living through peak Jump Action games. 🙌

I was a HARDCORE Nintendo fan during NES, SNES, N64, and a little bit of the GameCube era. Once FFVII hit the PS1 in 1997, I became mostly a PlayStation fan, only dabbling in Nintendo and Xbox. But Switch 2 has activated my love for Nintendo again in a big, BIG way. 🤩🤩🤩

Question for PlayStation/Nintendo/Xbox fans who "don't care" if their exclusives go to other platforms: if you don't believe in software differentiators, then what exactly are you a "fan" of? The UI? The plastic shell of the console? I'm genuinely curious, because I don't understand.

I got a bunch of people on PC and PS5 that I work with to buy Helldivers II, and we've had a blast so far! I told two Xbox dudes I work with that it's coming to their platform next month, and the only question was "will it be on GamePass?" When I said no, they lost interest. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I hear a lot of people say that Ghost of Yotei is "more of the same," and they're not wrong. It's more iterative than revolutionary, which is fine. The problem is long dev cycles which cause the audience expect more. I miss getting three Crash, Spyro, Sly, Jak, etc games per gen.

ClankStarr 🇦🇲 @clankstarr.bsky.social · 12/07/2025

I never want to hear about how PlayStation doesn't have colorful characters that can compete with Nintendo. They just need to execute on a plan.

How we feeling about PlayStation Productions? Personally, I'd like them to be more ambitious. Where's the over the top sci-fi, mythic fantasy, or animated stuff? It's just been two post apocalyptic road trips, a racing movie, a generic adventure movie, and a totally forgotten horror movie. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I really miss the times when each console felt distinct, even from other consoles within the same brand. The PS1 very much has its own identity, as do the PS2 and PS3. But the PS5 really does just feel like more PS4, and I expect that the PS6 will as well.

As a 90s kid, this always struck me as weird, too. I genuinely miss seeing Joe Camel stuff in stores because it reminds me of times I spent with my dad, who is a heavy smoker. I was raised around this stuff, and I've never smoked a day in my life. 🤷🏽‍♂️ 🐫

I haven't been this excited for a new Nintendo console since the N64. Sure, I hate the whole game key card debacle. But outside of that, this is shaping up to be a GOATed year for Switch 2! The real question is: will Nintendo keep this release cadence for the rest of the gen?
