His uncle was highly protective of his children, especially after Fernando’s abduction years ago. He distanced himself from them for their own protection, and no amount of coercion would make him change his mind. Javier didn’t like it, but he understood.

Will and Mikey rested their backs against the cool brick wall on a hijacked locker room towel placed over a bald patch of ground. The sound of scuffling feet, bouncing basketballs, and an occasional swear—followed immediately by a teacher's stern reprimand—cut through the otherwise silent morning air. Will did not feel the least bit remorseful about skipping class and hiding behind the building named after his late human father; he knew that the man would have been more insulted by a high school gymnasium being named after him in the first place.

After another half hour of chatting intermingled with the usual dirty talk that Demetrio felt obligated to contribute, Becky said goodbye to everyone and practically ran out of the house to go home and pack for her local getaway with Ginger. Luca offered to clear the table but was vehemently denied, and so instead, he headed out to call the Old Man while the night was still young. And Demetrio was last, taking off for what he bluntly described as a “fuck date with the neighbors.”

“I hope it shrivels up and falls off,” Dominic said coolly as he began removing plates and wine glasses and goblets from the table.

“I love you, too,” Demetrio shot back with a grin.

Javier almost didn’t hear Daniel’s question for being so distracted by the finger lazily circling his navel. “I want the Browns to have a winning season.”
Daniel chortled and scooted closer to him. “What do you want that I can actually give you?” he amended.
There were plenty of things that Javier wanted. Another Roger Dubuis watch to add to his growing collection. A bottle of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945. A Lamborghini Veneno. But what he wanted most of all was far less expensive than those things yet worth more than all of them combined:
“I want to wake up next to you. Without roommates or crazy exes in the next room. Just you and me.”

It's very hard for me to turn off my brain enough to sleep when I'm writing a story. But I have been doing better since having a microsleep episode (with a dream and everything 😬) while driving home from work back when I was writing my first novel. So yeah, I get it.
