Picked up my pre-order from Books are Magic!

Book “The Inheritance” by Janet Reitman, with the Gowanus Canal in the background.

Complete non-sequitur, but here’s some information about overseas voting that might be of interest to you and other Americans abroad. From a friend in FAWCO.

Overseas American voters, and especially their children born abroad, pay attention!!! AARO has issued the following today, and FAWCO and other groups are very concerned:

Last Minute Changes to Federal Forms and Websites

In just the last few weeks the federal government has taken several troubling actions affecting overseas voters:

• The Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and the Federal Write in Ballot (FWAB), the voting forms used by overseas Americans, were changed in late August without the standard Federal Register comment process.
• The federal General Services Administration (GSA) website now issues
special instructions to the FPCA stating that overseas citizens who do not intend to return cannot use the FPCA.
• A key webpage of the Federal Voter Assistance Program (FVAP), the
government agency that ensures that overseas Americans know their right to
vote and provides tools and resources to do so, is now unavailable.
• The usa.gov absentee voting webpage states that “U.S. citizens born outside
the U.S. who have never resided in the U.S. may not be able to vote absentee” and then directs you to the unavailable FVAP webpage.
• An FVAP webpage where one could clearly see the deadline dates for ballot
return, indicating “postmarked by” dates and “received by” dates for the many
states that count late-arriving ballots, has been modified and is less transparent.

Stranger Than Paradise rewrote my college brain. Different concepts of plot and pacing.

No pet pix, but some amazing mushroom pictures from today’s hike.

Tiny mushroom colony that looks like coral.

Lookit the horrors they want to replace the nice urban trash bag piles with. The order. The cleanliness. My god.

A row of clean, curvy Empire Bins in Harlem. Sure, they’re plastic, but no mystery ooze and no rats!

#brooklyn Be on the lookout! Eastern Swallowtail caterpillars are eating ALL the parsley and want a study stick to make chrysalises! Found nine of these this morning on my denuded parsley plant. #butterfly #easternswallowtail

Bright green with black & yellow dots Eastern Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillar upright on a parsley stem. Looking very hungry!

I went to Google Maps to search Watendlath, and one of the random user photos appears to be of that very spot.

Photo of place in Watendlath UK, the Lake District, that appears to be the place in the referenced painting.

It seems strangely accurate, TBH. Maybe 64 questions is the right number.

For readers of this thread, this graphic is interesting.

Graph showing Trump disapproval by state and by 2024 voters. He is under water in six Trump/Biden states: WI, MI, PA, GA, AZ, & NV. Strong approval only in ID, WY, & WV.

#philadelphia be on the lookout for this guy. His dad is not on blsky, so reply here if you know anything and I'll pass that on.

Oberon Wackwitz is missing in the Philadelphia area. He struggles with addiction and mental illness. He is a young, medium-toned Black man with a beard & mustache.

Everything is terrible but today I am wearing these amazing Big Pants floral jeans.

Horseshoe jeans, dark blue denim with light blue denim floral/botanical print.

Everything is terrible, but the cherries are blooming in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. There are no bad pictures of the lovely Japanese walk.

Overhanging branch with cherry blossoms in foreground; Green-hued lake in mid ground, and vermilion gate in background.

Everything is terrible, but my daughter adopted a wobbly cat and we all love him so.

A stripey cat, in loaf position, looking up diagonally.

If you like that kind of thing, there’s a US Drought Monitor page with the latest drought data.

Screenshot of U.S. Drought Monitor national map, data valid March 31, 2026. Red and deep red is splotched across southeastern Texas, Florida panhandle, and northwestern Colorado, among other places. Maybe 25% of landmass? About 2/3 of America is in some kind of drought, mostly low to moderate.

The article is quite deadpan funny. Here’s the ending:

Interviews with three skeptical Waffle House customers, the last one remembering that he once ended up at Waffle House so drunk he didn’t know how he got there. Hmm.

I carried an OG Shepherd Fairey sign from 2017 (two sided), and so many people gasped and took pictures of them.

Two drawings of American women: a Latina woman and a woman wearing an American flag hijab.

Hello Darth. Always lovely to see you. ❤️ Recently I went to India and saw a lot of things, but among them was this beautiful street goat in Fort Kochi, Kerala.

White goat with black lining on its ear, around its eyes, and apparently lipstick (!). Lying down and lounging against a cream-colored wall.

The entire post-9/11 front page, especially “Rest of Country Temporarily Feels Deep Affection for New York,” and the one about the Aristocraticization of Previously Gentrified Neighborhoods — as a Brooklynite this is so very, very true.

Front page of post-9/11 Onion including: “Hijackers Suprised to Find Selves in Hell” and “Rest of Country Temporarily Feels Deep Affection for New York.”

In the 1995 Persuasion, Lady Russell has the BEST hats. I read that the costume designer spent extra time on her hats because the actress was ill during the shoot. (Very sadly, Susan Fleetwood died shortly after the film was done.)
