Gatwick has around 16 trains an hour to London, and connects with more major terminals, mostly 12 carriages. Of course Heathrow has Express/Tube and a few Elizabeth line trains, but would say they are broadly similar rather than 'nothing like it'

Its accurate recreation of an early 80s nightclub decor was truly impressive. Almost as if it hadn't been touched in 25 years. So much neon. (Was it called chemistry back then?)

It came with quite a good manual, I remember my dad showing my loops in basic, and then I just added every command using the same variable going up by one each loop... sound, draw a box, colour

I didn't know she was 49 in Waiting for God but I had thought about how she played this in the early 90s and then was in a care home again in Man Down in the 2010s (and oddly looks too young for it)

Great news, the MCS dashboard doesn't seem to reflect this (the chart is for the last three years and seems to show steady gradual growth)

I recently had some flat roofs on our home replaced. As this amounted to more than 50% of our roof space, we needed a building notice. This cost a small fortune and the whole process is so confusing, partly as much of it is aimed at much bigger projects. Todays form asked the following

Sorry, i didn't ask that very well, the tone of this thread is lots of low 5 year deals are ending now, but point/question was presumably they have ending for some since the day they went up (obviously for those who had taken them out 5 years previously), and continued at a similar rate since

Chris Keene @ck12.uk · 06/09/2026
Am I right in thinking the rate people are coming off low 5 year deals should be fairly consistent from the moment rates shot up? Unless people saw it coming and re-mortgaged quickly just before?

Working at the University its always a bit embarrassing having to tell a small supplier who you want to work with that they need to fill out a massive form to get paid (eventually)

I think at the very least there should be options to share your location, but the other person has to press a button and you get notified when they do. This allows the child to ask why they checked (esp if the parent didn't try to msg/call first), and make adult think twice before doing so

Five years+a few days ago, I set off on a 24-hour bus odyssey that would turn out to be the first of many occasional public transport challenges. (Origin story here for newbies www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-engl...) Well, I couldn’t let that milestone pass without a new bus jolly. From 4pm, it’s #BusCity24

Was it Jon Worth who argued that Ashford had a more viable argument? Which really surprised me Ebbsfleet seems to have a massive M25 catchment area of people who want to drive from the suburbs rather than get a train to central London

When I see spurious claims (new houses all for those arriving by boats etc), I find it hard to quickly find actual facts (what do they get, how, when) to correct, and I like to feel I stay well informed. Wish gov/others provided more factual summaries of what is provided/happens

TfL have just published their latest Bus inventory (I know, exciting). For the last five years every single new bus has been electric. No new diesels or hybrids since 2020, no more hydrogen fuel cell since 2021. EV's are now the most common type of London bus! content.tfl.gov.uk/31-march-202...

I'm guessing price would be key, and rolled out in such scale that they could be summoned any time and be there quite quickly. I think bespoke design for driverless city journeys could help. (Oh and I have no plans to use an Uber for a trip to Sainsbury's!)

On one hand the tech bro "self driving is fully capable" when it clear isn't makes me against them. However the end game (the one I want to see) that I could just summon one when I want to make a trip, reducing the need for many people to own cars at all, and the space it would save

Framing this another way, it does feel that the Humanities gets a more passionate response than other subjects. Which is unfortunate for those other subjects, and those who teach/research them, which are no lesser value
