I know, but unless they're lying to the court, it's weakness. They're asking the court to intervene and defend them, in part, b/c they lack the courage to defend themselves.

If there isn’t a fierce and prolonged accountability campaign that leads to the disbarment of scores if not hundreds of Trump administration lawyers, then what’s even the point of having state bars? www.nytimes.com/2026/10/06/u...

Wrongly Indicted Man Seeks Inquiry of Official Conduct in Reflecting Pool Case
Lawyers for the former Olympian David Hearn accused prosecutors of ignoring their own evidence to indict him and then providing “blatantly false” information about what they knew when.

Subway ad touting “the first AI law firm.“ The firm’s name is rendered in a jumble of serif and sans-serif fonts. The image looks like AI slop. It’s quite a message about the likely quality of the legal work.

It's a real challenge to understand why crime rates go up or down in NYC or anywhere. But this at least should quiet those who predicted NYC's ruin should we presume to elect someone who wasn't 100% dedicated to business-as-usual.

That has historically been true. Unless it changes, we're doomed. I'm not a doomer.

It’s funny: given everything that’s happened that the smart people said would never ever ever happen in American democracy, you would think that the range of things that the smart people think might happen would expand. And yet here we are.

I mean, I guess, if you think that whether something is “unconstitutional” is a matter of logic or reason and not politics. I believe our current Supreme Court has disproven that conclusively.

Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 21h
Congress could create a special court just for that purpose. That power congress certainly has under article iii.

That’s fine. We can build a jail for that.

Like court defunding. Or impeachment. Or, again, making defiance of a jurisdiction stripping provision a crime.
000
Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 21h
There is no jurisdiction. At minimum, the executive need not enforce any judicial order made in defiance of a jurisdiction stripping provision. But if the political branches have stripped jurisdiction in the first place, they would likely be primed to impose more serious consequences.

Not sure what you mean by "interfaces with normal court functions."

Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Expansion is the politicized response. Jurisdiction stripping is in the constitution. In any event, if Congress doesn't want to be seen as bluffing, they can make defiance of a jurisdiction strip into a felony.

Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
What does "allow" mean here. Is the court going to send someone to arrest Congress? The executive enforces the court's orders. If the executive signs a bill containing a jurisdiction stripping provision, what do you think is going to happen if the court resists? Nothing good for the court.

Anyway, this has already been done. Ex parte McCardle (1869).

What do you mean "allow?" Is the court going to arrest Congress? It's the executive who enforces the court's orders. If the executive does not enforce those orders, the court is powerless.

To the extent that polarization exists, the left’s part in it is driven, as Bouie identifies, by our refusal to allow racist southern Democrats to be the decision-makers any longer. I don’t think anyone should be advocating that we find some meeting point with the other side on that.
110
Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Partly. And also partly b/c some of the people funding the anti-polarization work are centrist Dems who think we should do more talking and are not unhappy if that leads to less doing.

Chris Sprigman @cjsprigman.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
In short, the problem isn't that we fail to listen to one another. The problem is that a big segment of the right wing is breeding vipers. I've heard the vipers' message. I'm not interested in it. I'm interested in crushing the vipers.

The centrist/non-partisan talking shops that have popped up lately like mushrooms are attacking the wrong thing. America isn't suffering from "polarization." It's suffering from right-wing radicalization against pluralism and democracy. Here's a great explainer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwW9...

On the one hand, this is true of every significant technological innovation. We got electricity; we got a zillion pounds of CO2 in the atmosphere. We got cars; we got cities destroyed with highways, etc. On the other hand, no normal human would put it the way Altman has.

Alll of this. I started my career in construction, working office jobs alongside people who worked trades. Know how many 60-year-old guys I saw working as bricklayers? Doing demo? Zero. How many 50-year-old roofers there are? Zero. One reason unions fight for high wages is because careers are SHORT.
